Homeworld 3 puts its visuals and design front and center but puts the strategy layers aside in favor of simple mechanics that work for new players but not so much for veterans.

A flawed sequel, that undermines some of the original games’ greatest pleasures, but this is still a uniquely enjoyable real-time strategy, with plenty of interesting new ideas.

Homeworld 3 is a welcome return for one of strategy gaming's most revered series, although the sometimes-clunky interface can make it feel older than it is.

Homeworld 3 has finally given players that long awaited continuation they have been waiting years to see. Once again, they are being taken on a fantastic sci-fi journey filled with everything one would expect from an RTS such as this. Even though it might not reach the level of its predecessors, it still offers an experience that many will not soon forget, and that does not just go for diehard fans either. It's also a great way for newcomers to jump into the genre.

“Homeworld 3's vast galaxy clashed with the limits of a poorly paced campaign and buggy missions.”

Homeworld 3 balances incredibly technical gameplay with streamlined mechanics that is easy to get into, but difficult to master.

Homeworld's operatic space combat is as engrossing as ever in its third outing, although a weaker story and a slightly odd cover system dim the shine of its star.

I had only a few gripes, but Homeworld 3 plays incredible from top to bottom, and I think whether you’re a fan of the series that’s been waiting for this or a newcomer that just likes good strategy, everyone who takes control of the Khar Kushan is in for an absolute feast of stellar strategy gameplay.

After decades of waiting, Homeworld 3 pushes the beloved space RTS series in new directions with megalithic terrain putting a fresh spin on combat, and a bitesized roguelite War Games mode, but still retains so much of the original tone and style. It doesn't quite stick the landing in some areas, and there's rough edges to improve, but I simply love being back in this setting and series.

Overall, Homeworld 3 takes an admirable approach to keeping what worked previously in the series and adding to it in smart and meaningful ways. The modernization of the series has yielded amazing benefits that make it feel like the definitive Homeworld experience unless you are looking to go back and experience the whole story for yourself.

Homeworld is a legendary series. To say a game was revolutionary can often be hyperbole, but in the case of Homeworld, this is as true of a statement as any. Before Homeworld, moving your units in three dimensions didn't happen. Homeworld brought actual space combat forward and is essentially revered as a result. Homeworld 3 and developers Blackbird Interactive, with some Relic Entertainment luminaries, look to build on this. After more than a few delays, we're finally here. Is this the triumphant return to the series it hopes to be?

Homeworld 3 will arrive almost 21 years after the previous installment, Homeworld 2, and after you plunge into this deep space strategy, you’ll soon realize it was worth the wait. It comes with a hefty price of $59.99 but has immense potential and is a must-play for all PC gamers.

Homeworld 3 is everything I hoped it could be. It improves on its predecessors in every conceivable way, and adds meaningful new features including a cooperative War Games mode. I never thought it would happen again, but I’m happy to report…the mothership has cleared the scaffold...we are away once again.

Homeworld 3 is the latest game in the highly regarded 3D space combat tactical simulation series from Blackbird Interactive. As such, Homeworld 3 has an elevated bar of excellence to uphold. Cutting to the quick, or TLDR, fans of the series can relax, Homeworld 3 not only clears the bar, it pushes the bar higher.

The Hiigaran fleet returns for a third outing that's busier and more complex but not quite as elegant as its predecessors.
