I am your Beast

I Am Your Beast is one of the best shooters I have played this year, though it isn't the greatest experience on the Steam Deck.

I Am Your Beast is a fantastic action game, one that really hones in on speed, adaptability, and efficiency. Memorizing levels and finding creative ways through them is a necessity for top times.

One hang-up I had was with the way you transition between levels. When you clear a level, there is no option to immediately start the next one, only to replay the current level again. It was tedious having to back out and manually select the next cutscene so that I could play the following level. This feels like the result of the emphasis on speedrunning, as players are encouraged to perfect levels. I appreciated this aspect but would have enjoyed some other design philosophies mixed in there.

I Am Your Beast is a lightning-fast first-person shooter developed by Strange Scaffold, known for their stylistic games like El Paso, Elsewhere. With its comic book-inspired visuals, a heart-pounding soundtrack, and a unique blend of parkour and combat mechanics, I Am Your Beast challenges players to improvise, adapt, and survive in a world where speed and precision are key.

All Harding wants to do is enjoy his quiet life living in the forest, but in I Am You Beast, General Burke has other ideas. He wants Harding to come back to do one last mission, a demand that quickly escalates when Harding refuses the offer by mercilessly killing the soldiers Burke sends in to retrieve him.

I Am Your Beast is a fantastic, easy-to-swallow FPS that can be an absolute breeze or a hardcore challenge depending on the individual.

I Am Your Beast is another major work from what I consider to be one of the interesting studios in the industry right now. Stylish, adrenaline-fueled action in a pulpy game that knows exactly what it is.

I Am Your Beast is a sensationally rapid-fire action game in every sense, but there's also a surprisingly well-realised thread of narrative running through.

I Am Your Beast is weak in some areas, but not significantly so. A large portion of it is just fine, but what’s good is really good. It manages a combat system that is fast and chaotic while still remaining intuitive, which is an impressive feat. Part of me wonders if something like this could be applied across a wider, longer game without diluting it. As it is, I Am Your Beast applies it perfectly, making it a short-lived but impactful experience.

Strange Scaffold has crafted another memorable shooter that knows how to get under your skin and pull you back in for just one more run. For players who love to push their skills to the limit, this one’s an easy recommendation.

I Am Your Beast is a silly game and it has some jank. There’s not a lot to play unless you’re the speedrunning type but what’s here is fun. The delay and patch were sorely needed and I’m glad to recommend at the very least wishlisting the game on Steam. There’s some jank, the game isn’t a looker, and it’s not very long on its own, but it’s worth checking out if you want something quick and silly. From the sick kills that start with a headshot, letting you catch a gun midair. Other times hitting a beehive or explosive barrel and taking out multiple dudes is fun too.

I Am Your Beast is a game I can heartily recommend, especially for people who enjoy titles like the aforementioned Hotline Miami and Superhot. The game is small, but mighty — it may end up being my personal game of the year. There’s no part of I Am Your Beast that feels unnecessary or awkward; the entire experience is focused on getting revenge and making it feel good.
