JETT: The Far Shore is at its best when you’re zipping across landscapes at breakneck speeds, with the music swelling and countless elements of the landscape begging you to explore them. Unfortunately, JETT struggles the most when it slows down, and its faults begin to show. It’s a worthwhile experience if the traversal and exploration sound like your kind of thing, but if you’re here for a strong narrative experience and tight mission design, JETT: The Far Shore might not deliver.

A finely struck balance of the grim dark expanse between the stars and the whimsy to be found on far away planets, definitely one worth your time and money. I just wish Isao would shut the hell up from time to time!

Jett: The Far Shore is an ambitious game with great dialogue and atmospheric world building. Sadly, the clunky controls and repetitive missions let it down.

If you had asked me weeks ago, I doubted that I’d be presenting a review for JETT: The Far Shore without seeing the end credits. Although unfortunately, mere days before the game was released, my save data corrupted during an update and I lost all progress. With that said though, I did see A LOT of this game. It was an experience considerably lengthier than I expected. But what I found most unbelievable is the feeling of relief when I decided I was not going to start from the beginning and ...

Superbrothers gained some notoriety back in 2011 with their first game, Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP. It was a game that was truly one of kind, being a music-inspired cosmic adventure that was well received from fans and critics alike. You have to hand it to them, they certainly know how present a game that doesn’t fall into the mainstream. They have now released their next game, JETT: The Far Shore, which once again doesn’t look quite like anything else on the market. Unfortunately...

Jett is a game that's equal parts wonder and frustration, an evocative adventure that feels brilliant under the thumbs, but one whose creative systems feel stifled by rigid story-telling.

Despite being one of 2021’s most atmospheric games, Jett isn’t without its shortcomings. For one, it’s a rather short game. It took me about ten hours to get to the credits, and some of that was wasted putzing around in the jett. The game’s hard-to-read map sometimes made it difficult for me to determine where I was supposed to go. I also encountered a bug where a story event failed to trigger and I had to reset the chapter. There are also instances where the game hitched for a frame or two, but Jett's sense of speed rarely abandons you....

Indie space exploration games have had a bit of a moment in recent years, with everything from No Man’s Sky to Outer Wilds letting players tackle that final frontier. That said, most of these games are still rather fanciful, not really showing how challenging and intimidating venturing to new worlds would really be. Enter Jett: The Far Shore, a more down-to-earth (er, so to speak) take on planetary exploration that’s more about the basics like shelter and survival than uncovering the secrets of the cosmos.

Jett: The Far Shore deftly blends exploration and narrative elements, telling a story of struggle and hope against the odds. Small issues aside, the game shines with great writing and believable characters who press on even as challenges arise.

JETT: The Far Shore has moments of brilliance, but they're buried under an overload of mechanics that aren't enjoyable and a general lack of polish. Similarly any philosophical value in its narrative ideas is ruined by needlessly obfuscated dialogue. There's something to be discovered here, but it's just not worth the trip.

Jett: The Far Shore is a frustrating jaunt through space, with a stunning world and narrative let down by clunky, awkward controls.

The mere notion of space and planet observation is tantalizing. Being able to discover new species and travel on otherworldly terrain is a fantasy that can only be realized through the medium of video games. Although many have tried, none have truly captured the excitement of exploration and serenity of space. JETT: The Far Shore looks to steer away from its peers by combining calming surveying of distant worlds and an intriguing narrative, but will this be the cosmic voyage that many have been pining for?
