Journey is as magical today as it was when it first released on the PlayStation 3 back in 2012. thatgamecompany's masterpiece is a thought provoking, emotional experience that everyone should try at least once, and now that it's on the PlayStation 4, complete with cross-buy support and enhanced visuals, there's never been a better time to go on such a glorious quest of self discovery.

However, there is a downcast, exclusionary cynicism in that evaluation that Journey simply does not abide -- cynicism is not a part of the game's worldview. Rather, Journey is an uplifting, ultimately joyous exploration of what games can accomplish and convey. It is a celebration of the medium and its myriad possibilities, and a gift of great and singular beauty to players -- all players. This Journey truly is its own reward, and comes highly recommended.

The visuals in Journey are nothing short of amazing. Thatgamecompany took an art style that worked and pulled it together with some tricks to make a game that looks absolutely gorgeous. Don’t be surprised when you get a Prince of Persia, Aladdin, or Lawrence of Arabia vibe from the game, and I’m not saying that just because they all take place in desert environments. Thatgamecompany’s art team pulled together some spectacular segments later in the game that I won’t spoil besides mentioning that they put an underwater level in there without water. The musical score is also worth mentioning with the entire final act of the game a beautiful sight to behold.
