Graphically, King Oddball is nothing to write home about – it looks like a mobile game – but visuals aren’t what this game is about, so they are a minor concern. I do want to mention the music though, because while it seems nice at first, as the game goes on it becomes incredibly grating and almost made me want to knock off a mark. But in all honesty that would be really harsh, because King Oddball is an incredibly addictive, massively enjoyable and most of all remarkably fun title that at less than a fiver should be an instant purchase for all puzzle fans out there!
Creating a game can be difficult, to say the least. You need a compelling protagonist, an objective for them to complete, and a hook to make the game stand out from the rest. The Nintendo Switch has been going full steam ahead, loading up its library with games big and small, including those we would see on mobile devices. King Oddball is one such title that has made its way to the Switch and has done so with quite possibly the most simplistic control scheme possible and yet it had me hooked for hours.

To say that the videogame market is saturated with physics-based puzzlers would be akin to saying that the Call of Duty series has only been mildly successful. In other words, it would be a vast and gaping understatement. To this end, indie effort King Oddball attempts to set itself apart from the competition by indulging in some good old fashioned weirdness. But does its offbeat style create a right royal experience, or is the whole thing just too odd?
King Oddball is a physics-based game that puts you in control of a sentient ball of rock set to destroy a cartoon world-at-war. While it may look like an Angry Birds clone, King Oddball adds a bizarre visual style and plethora of tank-exploding levels to the mix, making for hours of block-busting fiery fun!
Like many mobile rooted games, King Oddball features a very simple premise that is easy to pick up, but a real lack of level variety holds it back from being a really good game.
Physics-based destruction has been all the rage ever since Angry Birds debuted back in 2009. But, is the formula better off on handheld devices? Maybe this weird rock with a massive tongue has the answer.
