King of Meat Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Guildford-based team Glowmade, with the deepest of pockets that is Amazon Games, gleefully throw us into a chaotic and bloody game show. Platforming, traps and enemies, with puzzles to solve, treasure to grab – either alone, with friends, or strangers online. We’ve been having a blast on the Xbox Series X version – so here’s our ‘Review-in-progress’ for King of Meat!
King of Meat delivers bloody fun and dark humor in a chaotic action-platformer. With community dungeons, co-op mayhem, and biting satire, it’s a twisted but entertaining show.
King of Meat is a splendid way to while away the hours with a few friends as you dash through devilishly designed dungeons in a never-ending quest for fame and fortune.
King of Meat is a strange name for a game, to state the obvious, and yet it totally fits the daft modern cartoon vibe that it’s going for, with bizarro riffs on quirky jokes running throughout. Set in Loregok, a techno-medieval world that’s gone absolutely ga-ga for the titular game show, your path to stardom is to dive into the dungeons, overcome platforming challenges, battle past skeleton minions, and make it through to the end. And you can become a star dungeon designer as well.
King of Meat is an action-packed, multiplayer dungeon crawler developed by Glowmade and published by Amazon Games. It’s kind of a mix of goofy vibes, from Adult Swim-like edgy cartoon humor to Ninja Warrior and Most Extreme Elimination Challenge. Imagine a fantasy-flavored challenge of carnage, spikes, and skeletons, televised to god knows who and where with color commentary and massive display screens. I had a lot of fun with its cute-but-crass tone, long list of unlockables, and novel mix of platforming and combo-driven combat. I do feel, however, that I reached my capacity for what King of ...
King of Meat delivers heaps of content at a reasonable price. It’s a lot of fun when you’re exploring a great dungeon with friends, but the cumbersome platforming means that others can be a slog. The level making and character customization options are top-notch, too, though you’ll have to put up with no shortage of annoying dialogue as you play.

King of Meat’s intro is a reflection of how the game feels — disjointed, confusing, and self-indulgent — yet it exhibits undeniable fun and high-quality production value. But for every awesome feature King of Meat has, there are just as many design decisions that undermine those features, making it difficult for King of Meat's strengths to shine.
There's an entire meta-game at play within King of Meat when it comes to the dungeon creation mode, which is one area where I'd expect the game to have a bit of a longer tail. Players who get enjoyment from titles like Minecraft or even Super Mario Maker will find that King of Meat's suite of creation tools gives them plenty of options and is fairly easy to use. But much like the core gameplay loop, this creative mode lacks the depth and complexity of any of the aforementioned games to be something that could keep creative-minded players engaged for more than a handful of sessions. King of Mea...
"King of Meat is effectively like one of the most eye-catching and elaborate LEGO kits you'll ever see. The composite parts are excellent, with soft-play-like visuals, a world that is wacky, silly, and engaging, and surprisingly nuanced combat and progression. Not to mention killer animation, a sublime creation kit, and cosmetic items that actually feel worth grinding for. However, like all LEGO kits, they don't come assembled, and you get out what you put in. As a solo experience, this game is hollow and quite one-note. Meaning that this game will only be successful and enjoyable if it gains ...
