Professional reviews from gaming critics

It’s crazy how video game releases work, especially back in the 80s and 90s, when so many games were released exclusively in Japan. One, or should I say two, of those games were Langrisser. Langrisser has seen very little release outside of Japan, aside from the “recent” mobile app that seems to have gone mostly unnoticed. The first Langrisser game was called Warsong in North America and only released on PC, while the last game, Langrisser: Re-Incarnate, was released on 3DS in North Ame...

The Langrisser series was pretty silent this past decade. The latest brand new game in the series, Langrisser Re:Incarnation Tensei, released on Nintendo 3DS in 2015, is notorious for being particularly bad. This is the sort of thing that I recommend people buy anyway because it sends a message that even if it’s coming over some two decades late, we do want these titles we’ve never seen before. That’s a lot that went right.

With fantasy turn-based tactics games like the Fire Emblem series making a splash in the west over the past few years, it’s no surprise to see the return of Langrisser I & II, two games that share their DNA and roots with other beloved tactical RPGs. An updated visual design, a remastered soundtrack, and a few nifty gameplay tweaks have prepared these classic titles for a contemporary audience.

Langrisser I & II may have seen some poor graphical improvements but this pair of SPRGs offer some great challenging gameplay and plenty of content.

The last time anyone outside Japan could get a new copy of Langrisser was right before grunge took over the radio. Now it's available for modern audiences alongside its sequel, and seekers of tactical action should definitely investigate.
