LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is the best love letter to Batman we’ve ever seen. The way it handles the history of the World's Greatest Detective is incredible. With great combat mechanics, a fun and fantastical story that gives the cornerstone eras their turn, this is, hands down, the best LEGO game to date.
Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight takes everything folks know about Batman from popular culture and filters it through the tried-and-true Lego formula. Whether you're a fan of Batman or Lego games, there's a lot to love in this charming adventure.
The advertising for Legacy of the Dark Knight described it as the definitive Batman story. While the story might not be definitive, the game is definitely one of the best Batman experiences of all time. LEGO Batman is packed with so much love and care that any kind of Batman fan can appreciate it. Everything about the game carries an infectious joy that can make someone smile harder than the Joker.
As a lifelong LEGO Batman fan, Legacy of the Dark Knight is nothing short of a dream come true. While I will praise the revamped combat, detailed open world, and charming story, it's the design philosophy they're spawned from that makes the game so successful. Legacy of the Dark Knight leaves no meat on the bone, with no corner of Batman's mythology left unturned as it depicts every version of the Caped Crusader fans have come to love. Even with my dissatisfaction with stealth and some minor ...
There are a couple of Arkham games better than this, but also a couple that are worse.
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is a great love letter to the Caped Crusader. Certainly, the story adapts the movies at the expense of the comic source material, the gameplay is a near replica of the Arkham games, and there are numerous technical issues and limited content. However, the story's overall charm, the fun gameplay, and the numerous costumes and Batmobiles to chew into mean that this is a must-play for hardcore Batman fans and younger audiences alike.
Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight isn't just another Lego game. It's the best Lego game to date, and the best Batman game since Arkham Knight (and it's been 11 years, Karl!). Sure, it's not as deep as the Arkham games, and not as charismatic as The Lego Batman Movie. But it's made with passion, love, and an understanding that players want more than just button mashing.
An endless parade of references and gags that's difficult to resist.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight may sometimes have a more serious tone befitting its subject matter, but it never loses its humor and heart. There's always a sense of fun pulsing through the veins of this game, whether through sight gags or quippy dialogue. Maybe you'll fight some bad guys in a ball pit. Maybe you and Catwoman have to rock out on electric guitars. Maybe the evil tension created by a villain is undermined by a one-liner from some random LEGO NPC. There's always surprises in store, and there are plenty of jokes catered directly to longtime Batman fans.
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is extremely ambitious in scope compared to previous LEGO/mega-IP combos, and it succeeds tremendously in nearly everything it has set out to accomplish. The result is a version of Gotham that is a blast to explore, and is also stuffed to the brim with fun activities to complete long after the credits roll on the main story. The narrative plays it a little safe, but also functions as a Greatest Hits compilation of some of the Caped Crusader's best adventures spun out and connected together in highly enjoyable ways. If you love LEGO, Batman, or simply havi...
