Even though he’s typically the most serious member of the Justice League, Batman is, as we’ve seen over the years, pretty silly. Adam West climbing up buildings and thwacking and thwocking his way through bad guys? Silly. Val Kilmer in a batsuit with nipples? Silly. Ben Affleck having a shouting match with Superman about the name Martha? Very silly.
Applause should be given Traveller's Tales, as they've conjured up the ultimate LEGO Batman game in the series' fourth outing. Retelling the origins of Bruce Wayne as Batman has been well-trodden ground, but witnessing his storied history play out with LEGO's joyful jokiness and whimsy is exceptionally pleasing.
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is the perfect love letter to the Caped Crusader, with fun gameplay, great writing, and tons of surprises every step of the way.
Featuring sharp writing, accessible gameplay, and plenty of discovery opportunities, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is another strong entry in the LEGO franchise perfect for younger players.
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is a wonderful homage to the history of the franchise. Fans of Batman are in for a treat, as each moment references iconic elements from the movies, comics, video games, and television while piecing together its own story. While the difficulty is low, every aspect of the gameplay is delivered with care, making this an engaging adventure. Charming and confident, this tribute breathes new life into Gotham.
Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is a love song to the enduring legacy and decades-long adventures of the Caped Crusader, offering great fun for all the family. Newly added combat mechanics, difficulty levels, and a slimmer roster of characters with unique skills make for a well-rounded gameplay experience. However, most of all, it made me want to play Batman: Arkham instead.
Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is a successful reinvention of the tired and bloated Lego series. A slimmer adventure, with a focused roster of characters and a new take on the old movie-recreation formula, makes for a fresh and exciting outing that is one of the best Lego games in years and a pretty great Batman experience.
A stitched-together Gotham that blends Arkham-inspired gameplay with LEGO charm and decades of Batman history.
It’s been 11 years since Rocksteady released a fully-fledged Batman game, not including VR side projects or Suicide Squad spin-offs. But if you’ve got an Arkham-sized hole in your life, Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight should call to you like a Bat-Signal.
The advertising for Legacy of the Dark Knight described it as the definitive Batman story. While the story might not be definitive, the game is definitely one of the best Batman experiences of all time. LEGO Batman is packed with so much love and care that any kind of Batman fan can appreciate it. Everything about the game carries an infectious joy that can make someone smile harder than the Joker.
An endless parade of references and gags that's difficult to resist.
Legacy of the Dark Knight’s excellent combat and stealth systems, fun open world, and clear reverence for the World’s Greatest Detective bring it close to plastic perfection.
As we wait for the Dark Knight's next big game, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight steps in and delivers a lovingly crafted, satisfying entry. It pulls from the best Batman entries while going beyond expectations in every aspect. This one’s by the fans, for the fans.
Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is easily TT Games' best work since the golden age of Indiana Jones and Marvel Super Heroes.
I feel like the LEGO game formula is mostly self-explanatory. They take a well-known franchise, give it the LEGO treatment, work in plenty of gags and humor, and then let you loose in a world that is both homage and satire of the original property. It’s a solid recipe, and it has proven successful for many years now. What really makes it interesting is that the pattern is so well-established, and we have seen so many of these games released, that LEGO titles can now be measured against each other and have become a genre unto themselves.

There are a couple of Arkham games better than this, but also a couple that are worse.
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is the best love letter to Batman we’ve ever seen. The way it handles the history of the World's Greatest Detective is incredible. With great combat mechanics, a fun and fantastical story that gives the cornerstone eras their turn, this is, hands down, the best LEGO game to date.
Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight takes everything folks know about Batman from popular culture and filters it through the tried-and-true Lego formula. Whether you're a fan of Batman or Lego games, there's a lot to love in this charming adventure.
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight may sometimes have a more serious tone befitting its subject matter, but it never loses its humor and heart. There's always a sense of fun pulsing through the veins of this game, whether through sight gags or quippy dialogue. Maybe you'll fight some bad guys in a ball pit. Maybe you and Catwoman have to rock out on electric guitars. Maybe the evil tension created by a villain is undermined by a one-liner from some random LEGO NPC. There's always surprises in store, and there are plenty of jokes catered directly to longtime Batman fans.
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is extremely ambitious in scope compared to previous LEGO/mega-IP combos, and it succeeds tremendously in nearly everything it has set out to accomplish. The result is a version of Gotham that is a blast to explore, and is also stuffed to the brim with fun activities to complete long after the credits roll on the main story. The narrative plays it a little safe, but also functions as a Greatest Hits compilation of some of the Caped Crusader's best adventures spun out and connected together in highly enjoyable ways. If you love LEGO, Batman, or simply having a good time with a video game, this is a very strong and easy recommendation.
As a lifelong LEGO Batman fan, Legacy of the Dark Knight is nothing short of a dream come true. While I will praise the revamped combat, detailed open world, and charming story, it's the design philosophy they're spawned from that makes the game so successful. Legacy of the Dark Knight leaves no meat on the bone, with no corner of Batman's mythology left unturned as it depicts every version of the Caped Crusader fans have come to love. Even with my dissatisfaction with stealth and some minor ...
