“Lost in Random is like a storybook come to life, but that isn't enough to carry it above its struggles.”

Lost in Random performs expertly on its gameplay and graphics, but falls very short when it comes to its little effort in the dialogue aspect. It’s also a shame to see how little polish the ending received.

I play a lot of games for this job. That’s not a brag, it’s just a fact. And while many of those games are good, most of them tend to blend together. But whenever something comes along that is not only great but also feels fresh and incredibly memorable, it reminds me of how awesome games can be. Lost in Random is one of these games. It combines a unique world with great writing, wonderfully quirky visuals, and a combat system that’s unlike anything I’ve played before.

This is a game that came close to greatness for me, but in the end the combat held it back. I still quite enjoyed my time with it thanks to the story, and I am very interested to see what developer Zoink is working on next. As it is not a full-priced title I think it’s worth taking a chance on if what you’ve seen here sounds interesting to you.

Lost in Random tells a sweet tale with surprisingly deep combat to brighten an otherwise dreary world.

In a world ruled by the roll of the dice, one girl’s quest to find her sister will separate fate, determination, and RNG. Lost in Random centers on the idea of games to build out the world of Random, a land dictated by the powers of a rolled die, magical cards, and enormous game pieces. But it’s far more than its gimmick, telling an endearing story of friendship, as well as persistence even when the odds are stacked against you.

If you’re willing to overlook the bloated combat, you’ll find a lot to love in this macabre adventure about the bond between sisters. It makes bold creative choices only possible at a high-budget indie level and is probably the closest we’ll get to a modern game based on The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Lost in Random is a beautiful Burton-esque fantasy that comes close to evoking the same levels of craft and character as its obvious inspirations. It doesn’t quite sustain the wonder from start to finish, but it remains an easy recommendation.

Lost In Random imagines a dark fairy tale that feels immediately timeless, even if some other aspects of the game won't age as well.

When the issues of a game are rolled and stomped by its greatness, then it’s something to invest on if you have some spare.

Thanks to its absolutely sublime art style, excellent voice acting and its dark, fairytale-like narrative, Lost in Random is a wonderful adventure that will have you gripped. It’s a shame there’s no lip syncing to really finish off the visuals, and combat can be a little frustrating at times, but in the grand scheme of things these are miniscule issues. There’s so much originality and charm here that it’s hard not to fall in love with the world of Random.

The purpose of the EA Originals publishing label is to bring forth unique and memorable experiences from independent studios. Swedish developer Zoink Games has definitely fulfilled the brief with Lost in Random: a card-battling adventure game that feels like it’s stepped straight out of a Tim Burton claymation movie.

It’s got a similar form of macabre about its world and narrative, but it also has a similar limitation and technical tarnish that those games had. Even and Dicey’s Journey to save Odd and stop the Queen is well written and presented by the game’s action, music, and narrative, but it feels like there’s also varying degrees of jank just sitting in your periphery. Get past that, and I still feel this is a fairy-tale adventure that...

Charming and often fun, Lost in Random has less going on than I would have liked, even if I had a good time overall.

Welcome to Random, where the single roll of a die can seal your fate. Randomness is fair, randomness is just, random rules. Lost in Random is a beautifully stylised gothic fairytale that will take you on a journey through a foreboding yet eccentrically kooky world. It’s releasing as part of EA’s Originals program, looking to deliver stellar experiences from smaller studios. Developer Zoink, known for releases such as Ghost Giant and Fe, are back and they’ve crafted what may well be thei...
