Mirror's Edge

Ambitious and original, but trips up.

Mirror's Edge is a classic example of some awesome ideas that just didn't pan out the way that was originally intended. The list of moves could be more expansive -- maybe by adding a fourth button to the mix -- and the world feels entirely too constricting for what could be a huge open city. Couple those gripes with some unappealing combat and a sometimes buggy design and Mirror's Edge falls short of my expectations. The ideas are there for a very cool experience, and I truly hope that a sequel is spawned, but this first attempt falls just a bit short.

In conclusion, it's hard to determine if Mirror's Edge will be worth it for you, even now that the price has dropped. On the technical side of things, the game looks as slick and polished as it could be, but while the core gameplay is interesting and refreshing, it can also be unnecessarily frustrating due to its many shortcomings. If you're interested in highly original game (and art) design, and are willing to put up with the frustrations you'll undoubtedly encounter along the way, Mirror's Edge is certainly worth a try.

Although a disappointing experience, Mirror’s Edge can still be a fun game in doses, but more than once the player will be left feeling confused after they successfully completed a jump they had just failed, without doing anything differently from the previous attempt. This will inevitably lead to the player feeling relived rather than satisfied at what they have just accomplished. If you haven’t played Mirror’s Edge on PC or console yet, then the choice is simple: get it on PC. It’s a more wholesome and enjoyable experience. So while the game itself hasn’t improved, our grip on it has, and we love it even more.
