Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
The Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is a dream come true for Mortal Kombat fans. There are multiple versions of every Mortal Kombat game, up to, and including, Mortal Kombat 4. The package has exhaustive extras, including a long documentary about the history of the series. Almost every game has online play with rollback netcode. And Mortal Kombat Trilogy has its load times and bugs fixed, so players can have every character in one game. My only complaints are minor, and that some of the games are awful. But I’m so glad those awful games are included, for completion’s sake and for nostalgic re...
Another home run for those wizards at Digital Eclipse whom I hope will never stop weaving their game preservation magic, Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection isn't just a pitch-perfect trip down memory lane, it's a love letter, a tantalising peeling back of the curtain, a look behind the scenes of one of the most legendary and landmark videogame franchises ever made. If you have even the smallest modicum of fondness for gaming's original bad boy, then the Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is as essential as essential can be.
Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is a triumphant return for the series that brings back the best the series has to offer.
Not every game in the Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection is a klassic, but dev Digital Eclipse’s ability to kontextualise kontent makes this a kompilation well worth owning.
Digital Eclipse’s documentaries / compilations have been outstanding so far, but one thing all of the previous three instances of their series had in common was the fact the games were a bit too old and a bit too limited. That’s not to say they were compilations on bad games (dude, please, one of them was about Tetris, arguably the most perfect game of all time), but they were almost always about smaller arcade games from the 80s, maybe some games in the early 90s. It was time for the Gol...
As video game franchises go, few have a more fascinating history than Mortal Kombat. Emerging from a ragtag team at an arcade-first developer, the blood-soaked fighter quickly became a phenomenon that rivaled one of its chief inspirations, Street Fighter, before being embroiled in controversy that reached the U.S. Senate. Digital Eclipse, a studio that has emerged as the preeminent compilation team, delivers an incredible collection of early-era Mortal Kombat titles along with a documentary t...
Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection provides some worthy updates to originals and showcases what makes the series so endearing.
Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection does a lot of things well, but its peculiar launch online choices and varying game quality might make it a tougher sell for those who aren’t familiar with earlier Mortal Kombat games. Still, there are a few great titles included in this collection, and an impressive amount of bonus content, so diehard Mortal Kombat fans are in for a treat.
Another top notch interactive documentary from Digital Eclipse, which explores the early days of Mortal Kombat in enjoyably forensic detail.
As a long-time fan, Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection feels like the ultimate compilation. Revisiting Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, one of my personal favorites, scratched that nostalgia itch in all the right ways. Unfortunately, noticeable audio issues and input lag do mar the experience.
Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection contains some of the greatest and most iconic games in the Mortal Kombat franchise! These were the games that put the series on the map, challenged censorship, and paved the way for other fighting games. Despite the games being fantastic, the selection of titles feels bloated and unnecessary, while the features, while good, seem like an average offering.
Whether you’re a series fan or a newcomer, if you love fighting games consider Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage a must-have.
