Mugen Souls Z Reviews

Professional reviews from gaming critics

Mugen Souls Z makes the mechanics and the gameplay more understandable and less harsh for trying to have fun. Having it be uncensored and on the Nintendo Switch also helps out quite a bit! I recommend this game to all fans of the JRPG genre that doesn’t mind a little steamy fan service in their games.

Greatly improved technical performance and streamlined gameplay helps make the sequel the best the series has been.

There aren’t many games as unusual as Mugen Souls Z. Its main character is a young goddess who carries around a coffin, not for any reason in particular, just because the writers needed some kind of container and that seemed to make sense. That’s not the weirdest thing that you’ll see either. Charged with “cuteness” and a little too risqué for its own good, this is a game that’ll leave you feeling a little creepy. Earning the Platinum may get you put on some sort of list.

Daubed in a vibrant hue of anime splendour, Mugen Souls Z is colourful yet basic in appearance. Environments are varied yet flat and with little sense of interactivity. Character models also lack detail when compared to their hand-drawn dialogue portraits. This inconsistency is further let down by the game’s generally poor frame-rate with music and sound effects doing little to balance the score.
