Going into Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2, I have to admit I was rather cynical. I couldn’t help but ask, was this sequel even necessary? It becomes clear after spending just a little time with it, however, that it is warranted. While it’s a shame that some characters have been cut, the extent that the gameplay has been improved and shaken up here is commendable. It’s those who value single-player content that truly win with Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2, though, with its roguelike campaign proving to be a genuine surprise.

If you are patient enough to make it through the horrendous load times throughout the game, you will more than likely find yourself having a great time with Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2. The gameplay improvements, including the super moves, were just what the game needed, and the addition of the campaign mode adds a lot more longevity to the overall experience that will keep players coming back for more. Even with some of the fan-favorite characters being cut from the roster, the game still boasts a very healthy and wide-ranging roster that makes Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 well worth picking...

There are even some blatantly confusing roster choices, like the addition of TMNT characters Raphael and Donatello, who were missing from the first game. Instead of having all four (as requested by fans), we’ve just lost Mikey and Leonardo to make room for their brothers. A better move would’ve been to include the entire first roster, revamped, and then the addition of the new characters featured in this roster. It's been a couple of years and Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 is now here so put on your SquarePants and hop into the arena.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 offers a genuinely fun multiplayer experience, so it's a shame that its single-player features are so weak. We were unable to test the game's online functionality, but if the online multiplayer is reliable and as fun as its local offerings, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 will be a solid option for Smash fans who are hungry for something fresh. The game isn't going to blow anyone away, but it mostly accomplishes what it has set out to do and delivers a platform fighting game experience that outdoes the original.
