I’ll admit that it’s been quite some time between drinks for me with platform fighting games like this, but Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 is a fairly good mix of nostalgia, new ideas and inoffensive fun. While it may not reach the sky-high standard of something like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate it gives 90s kids like me another way to beat up our friends while reminiscing about the good old days of racing home to watch your favourite cartoons and arguing about which of them could take the others.

All-Star Brawl 2 feels like a Smash clone and not much more, but fans of Nicktoons should still find a lot to love in this package brimming with care and nostalgia.

If you are patient enough to make it through the horrendous load times throughout the game, you will more than likely find yourself having a great time with Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2. The gameplay improvements, including the super moves, were just what the game needed, and the addition of the campaign mode adds a lot more longevity to the overall experience that will keep players coming back for more. Even with some of the fan-favorite characters being cut from the roster, the game still boasts a very healthy and wide-ranging roster that makes Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 well worth picking...

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 is a fantastic 2D platform fighter that improves significantly on the original, but it does need a little work on Steam Deck.

There are even some blatantly confusing roster choices, like the addition of TMNT characters Raphael and Donatello, who were missing from the first game. Instead of having all four (as requested by fans), we’ve just lost Mikey and Leonardo to make room for their brothers. A better move would’ve been to include the entire first roster, revamped, and then the addition of the new characters featured in this roster. Though twenty-five fighters may seem like a lot for a starting roster, and it is to an extent, when looking at something like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, we saw a starting...

All-Star Brawl 2 addressed a major issue that many had with the first game by bringing a good deal of charm and polish to everything. There’s copious voice acting, more expressive animation that often pays homage to all of these iconic characters and shows and an overall greater feeling that a lot of passion went into the game’s look. This is the thing that’s often missing in these crossover platformer fighters, so it was refreshing to see that All-Star Brawl 2 has this down.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 isn’t shabby, but it isn’t shining either.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 offers a genuinely fun multiplayer experience, so it's a shame that its single-player features are so weak. We were unable to test the game's online functionality, but if the online multiplayer is reliable and as fun as its local offerings, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 will be a solid option for Smash fans who are hungry for something fresh. The game isn't going to blow anyone away, but it mostly accomplishes what it has set out to do and delivers a platform fighting game experience that outdoes the original.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 is a huge step up from the original. While far from perfect, it’s an incredibly fun and silly time especially online with friends. When playing solo, there’s still a wealth of things to do too - it’s just an all around good time, despite the jank or perhaps because of it.

You can say a lot of things about GameMill’s recent output of licensed games, but when it comes to their Nickelodeon titles, they usually improve upon their predecessors based on carefully listening to fan feedback. Nickelodeon Kart Racers was crap, but its sequel fixed pretty much every single complaint, becoming a shockingly competent Mario Kart competitor. The same can now be said about Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. It was an ambitious Super Smash Bros clone with a neat premise (Smash Bros...

Going into Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2, I have to admit I was rather cynical. I couldn’t help but ask, was this sequel even necessary? It becomes clear after spending just a little time with it, however, that it is warranted. While it’s a shame that some characters have been cut, the extent that the gameplay has been improved and shaken up here is commendable. It’s those who value single-player content that truly win with Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2, though, with its roguelike campaign proving to be a genuine surprise.
