NieR RepliCant Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
A great action-RPG with a compelling story, blighted by taxing replays that feel mandatory.
One of my greatest gaming shames is that I never finished NieR: Automata, which is often lauded as one of the best games of the past generation. I enjoyed what I played, but for one reason or another, I just fell away from it and never found the time to go back. I’d always planned on returning some day, but once Replicant was announced I decided to start there and make my way forward if I ended up enjoying the one that started it all. Well, I guess I’m playing Automata next because NieR Replicant is an incredibly special game with a fantastic story, memorable characters, and fun gameplay that’...
Nier Replicant is ambitious, clever, and has an absolutely killer story. Back in 2010, I gave the original game 6/10 in view of its muddy visuals, poor performance, and a whole lot of backtracking. Two of these issues are comprehensively fixed in this comprehensive remaster. While the backtracking remains, it feels much less painful this time around thanks to it being part of a game with smooth performance that’s ultimately much more fun to actually play. The game is considerably improved as a result, and much of what made the original quietly special can now shine far more brightly. It might ...
A highly polished remaster of the almost-classic action role-player, that is still stuck with some of the original flaws but allows the thoughtful, and very humorous, script to shine.
It's been over a decade, but western gamers have finally been given a chance to play the Replicant incarnation of NieR. More than that, this remaster features enough new content to make an already good game even better.
Padded and tedious, but engrossing and enjoyable. NieR Replicant occupies a strange spot in the gaming pantheon.
Nier Replicant deserves praise for its clever characters and unorthodox setting, even if the gameplay and level design can get repetitive by the end.
Some creaky design concepts that don't hold up well and a slipshod PC port hold Nier Replicant back from greatness on PC.
Taro’s approach is of a restless rarity; he swaps genres as though trying to scratch an itch.
