Onrush is one of the better multiplayer games on the market and is easily a game for all ages. The customization, competition, and teamwork all make for a heck of an afternoon of gaming. And where it is 7v7, you can't possibly run out of spots for friends to come get some.

This is not a race. It is a high-speed stampede.

A fantastically original racer that goes out of its way to offer unique play modes without alienating anyone that just wants a fun arcade experience.

Onrush is one of the most original driving games I’ve played in years, giving it a unique flavor. By forgetting about simply going faster than everyone else and mixing traditional racing mechanics with modes and subtle nuances typically found in other genres, Onrush managed to change the way I think about racing games. Its unorthodox online car-brawls and varied objectives go out of their way to feel different, and even when the maps become repetitive after a short while, its appeal remains for the simple fact that there’s no other arcade driving game quite like this.

Onrush could use some refinement when it comes to its modes but its core is strong, and the foundation is set for a great arcade racer. I’m anxious to see how it evolves and if people will really pick up on the class-based system enough to explore it past the first few weeks of launch, but for now I’m happy boosting off of a cliff and doing sweet flips on a motorcycle to earn points.

There’s a little bit of everything in Onrush, from racers to shooters, from destruction derbies to sports games. If you were expecting a sequel to MotorStorm, Onrush won’t be for you, but give it a chance and its clever blend of different genres can draw you into its unrelenting vehicular action.

Driving games could stand to lighten up a bit. Not to take anything away from acclaimed series like Gran Turismo, Forza Motorsport, and Project CARS, but sometimes you just want to crash through the competition while mashing the boost button ‘til your thumb hurts. Unfortunately, aside from the occasional Mario Kart or TrackMania game, arcade thrills have been in short supply in recent years.

As a huge fan of the Motorstorm and Burnout games, I jumped at the opportunity to try out Codemasters' Onrush.

Onrush is what happens when you chuck MotorStorm and Burnout into a big ol' blender, sprinkle in one or two dashes of originality for good measure, then stir in some mud, grit and a bit of DiRT. While Onrush might ostensibly look like your standard, run-of-the-mill racer, it ain't. First and foremost, you're not really racing at all, and there are no prizes for finishing at the front of the pack. It's purely about teamwork and scoring more points than the opposition, which is a nice change of...

After a decade of waiting, Burnout's heir apparent is here. With a mix of reckless driving, team-based objectives, and just a dash of neon superpowers, Onrush is an explosive cocktail that's not to be missed.

The game offers a sort of career mode to give players a good sense of some of the tactics that will be useful online. However, I wish the single player mode were more fleshed out. It’s totally serviceable, especially for helping me learn its concepts. But given its length, which is a bit long, I had hoped that there was more to it than just bouncing from race to race. Outside of the career mode, and custom game mode for offline, there’s not much else to do. Online seems to be the main hook for players to come back to....

ONRUSH tries a number of new things with its team-based driving mechanics, and some aspects of this gamble pay off better than others. Its speed and mechanics are sound, but those looking for something a bit more traditional best approach with caution.

An intriguing concept that should have gone much further, Onrush burns out in neon smoke, promoting a team aspect that's not exceptionally amazing. Decent gameplay abounds but dedicated racers and competitive players will be left wanting for a meatier experience.

Arcade racing is back, even if I'm not sure you can call this a pure racing game.
