Prey gives you all the tools you need, but allows you to decide how to get to your goal. The fear is constant, as is the joy from getting to safety. Despite a largely forgettable main story, I'll remember my own experience in Talos-1 for some time.

Where Prey doesn’t lack, however, is in its presentation. Talos-1 is crafted with a 1960’s deco style that gives the game a distinct look. And each room is different enough from the rest of the station which made exploration rewarding. The biggest highlight for me was how the station felt more like a work place then a play area for the game. It gave Talos-1 character, and made the fights feel cramped which heightened the tension.

Prey generally impresses with its intriguing setting and rewarding exploration, but stumbles in its combat and technical execution.

Despite the fact that there were technical difficulties, I still enjoyed the game thoroughly. And as much as I would like to talk more details about it, it is better that you explore this dangerous ship to discover them all. It was a fun game from beginning to end. It’s a game that tests your morality and compassion. A game that is tailored by how you play it and a game that rewards and punishes you for the things that you do. All I do each night is Prey, hoping Ken Levine will make Bioshock games again one day. An interesting premise and extremely well-executed world building are brought crashing down by off-putting controls and one of the most underwhelming endings I can remember.

Prey starts strong, then gets better and better as its compelling narrative gradually unfolds, and new terrors stalk the confines of Talos I. A sci-fi survival masterclass, Prey is quite simply sublime.

Technically the game is very sound. I didn't run into any noticeable frame issues or hard crashes, but I did suffer a few minor hiccups. Playing on the PlayStation 4, I often noticed Morgan would move of his own free will. My controller was sitting atop my desk, but Morgan would be turning or moving in a random direction without any human input. I did test with other hardware but the same problem. It was a rare occurrence and something I'd expect to be fixed in the first few patches.

Prey begins slowly, in appropriately sedated fashion, as scientist Morgan Yu awakens in an upper-class apartment. There’s a sense of fuzziness there, an inexplicable unease that something is not right. Turns out the feeling isn’t misplaced. After a trippy introduction, Prey thrusts you headfirst into its world, where merciless monsters called Typhon roam the research-focused Talos-1 space station, tearing the inhabitants to pieces. Suddenly you find yourself in the position of having to keep these aliens from getting off the station—at any cost.
