Is Rayman 3 HD for you? It all comes down to what you want out of an HD re-release. The textures are cleaner, the animation’s smooth, and the humor remains, but gameplay is still rooted in 2003. Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc is still a good game and a lot of fun for 800 Microsoft Points, but don’t expect a complete overhaul of a once great platformer.

With his goofy haircut, non-existent limbs and a nose that threatens to eclipse the remainder of his face, Rayman's popularity is pretty surprising. It's a long game (Ubisoft estimates 15 to 20 hours), made even longer thanks to bonus games that include everything from an old-school 2D platforming level to a first-person shooter. Still, there are simply much better examples of the genre available for download on both Xbox 360 (Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts) and PlayStation 3 (Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus). Despite it's updated visuals and sound, Rayman 3 HD is a game that is best left to...
