Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Don’t expect for me to talk about my prior experience with the Record of Lodoss War franchise, because honestly, I still have no clue what the hell this series is about. All I know about it is that there was a game released for the Dreamcast back in the day. That’s it. What made me excited about Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth wasn’t its source material, but the fact it looked extremely similar to Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. This is what convinced me to give it...
Simply put, it’s a title that knows what it is and seems to hit all its targets with deadly precision. This results in a game that isn’t exactly transcendental, but is as solid as bedrock. Even if you’re not a fan of the Record of Lodoss War source material, it is worth a look. At the very least, it took me back to my days of binging on Castlevania’s Game Boy and DS titles, which I mean as a compliment. It may not be the freshest meal in the cafeteria, but it’s still a tasty dish at the right price.
As this is on Game Pass it’s an easy recommendation to anyone interested in the genre. It is $25 US at the time of this review if you prefer to “own” your games. If you aren’t big on a SotN clone then stay away, but if you are then this is a solid 6 or so hour experience that is well worth your time. I still may have little to no clue what Record of Lodoss War is, but I’m excited to see what developer Team Ladybug might do with the series next.
Team Ladybug's latest title is still worth your time, but pales in comparison to their earlier works.
Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth finds high elf Deedlit in a new story set in the Lodoss universe. Tight gameplay and presentation prevail over a thin story.
