RPG Time: The Legend of Wright

RPG Time: The Legend of Wright is a unique game. You need to see it in motion to truly appreciate it. Both graphically and setup-wise I’m not sure I’ve played something like it before on an Xbox system. It is definitely aimed at kids, but even as a grumpy old man who is turning 40 this year I loved my time playing through the campaign. Few games have this incredible of an imagination behind them, and I cannot wait to see what developer Deskworks comes out with next.

Creating an indie game is, in a sense, a question of resources and smart sacrifices. Smaller budgets and scopes define and shape much of the indie sphere. There is only so much one can do with limited resources. Oftentimes, it leads to streamlining, cutting through luxuries and chaff to get to the core concept. I love when clever indie games release and RPG Time: The Legend of Wright is one impressive creative effort that's sure to win you over.

RPG Time: The Legend of Wright is a game made by an aspiring designer who's currently a school-kid, or at least that’s the game’s premise. The focus of this game is largely on style, but it’s not entirely devoid of substance. It is however held back a little by some annoying controls and Kenta’s railroading.

Doodling during class is a favorite pastime for many students. In RPG Time: The Legend of Wright, players are introduced to the world of Cardbordia and tasked with saving the princess in this pop-up storyboard adventure.

It’s full of charm and unfiltered imagination, but RPG Time’s presentation and vibes bely a rather bare-bones and overly simplistic role-playing game that struggles to hold your attention.
