December 5, 2024 Read Review

Rune Factory 5 is a technically perfect game that meets all of its goals. Unfortunately for the player, the goals met are either not very impressive or downright uncomfortable.

While it still has many issues, Rune Factory 5 on PC is leagues better than its console counterpart. There are a decent amount of graphics options and full keyboard and mouse support so you can farm, fight, and fall for characters at a far more stable frame rate.

Rune Factory 5 is improved on PC, and is an enjoyable entry in the series. However, it's graphically dated with serious tech issues, and gameplay is a step back in some ways.

Rune Factory 5 is a very fun "get to town and do all the things" game, which has been cleaned up significantly from it's initial release on Switch. The PC version of the game is clean and crisp, allowing players to address settings before even booting the game up. With a ton of fun activities and places to explore, Rune Factory 5 has a little something for everyone, and is appropriate (and fun) for all audiences. Farm, explore, romance, capture monsters; every activity is gently charming. Well worth a look for adults, but good luck keeping the kids away from it.

After almost 10 long years, Rune Factory 5 has finally made it's way into the eager paws of gamers in the West. But was it worth the wait? That’s what we’re here to find out. Here is a review of Rune Factory 5 on the Nintendo Switch.

With tried-and-true farming gameplay and a beautiful art style, Rune Factory 5 is a satisfying experience with some significant performance issues.

Rune Factory 5 has been a game I have been waiting for since I was lucky enough to review Rune Factory 4 Special on Switch a couple of years ago. That release managed to hit the perfect spot between action RPG and Farming Sim without feeling like it’s giving either element the short end of the stick. Rune Factory 5 was developed by Marvelous and released in Japan last year, with a release in the west only just landing. As is pretty clear by its content, the series was originally a spin-off ...

Rune Factory 5 does a few things differently that'll interest long-time fans of the series. The jank and slight annoyances with farming will turn most newcomers away though.

“Rune Factory 5 should satisfy fans and cozy game enthusiasts, but its not quite as friendly for newcomers.”

March 22, 2022 Read Review

Rune Factory 5 is a refreshing farming RPG that should really appeal to fans of the niche genre…It may not be a perfect or highly innovative game, but Rune Factory 5 is definitely worth the time spent playing.

Rune Factory 5 is an endlessly charming, technically messy farm-life RPG that will delight series fans for a while.

Rune Factory 5 doesn’t break the mould but it's still definitely worth your time, for returning fans and potential new ones.

March 22, 2022 Read Review

Rune Factory 5 takes a few missteps, for sure - the clunky framerate and a lifeless town being the biggest of them – but it's the kind of fantasy farming experience I've been clamouring for ever since the last game came out. The routine of tending your farm, clobbering some goblins, and giving your spouse a bunch of gifts is as addictive as ever. Even if this isn't the most polished entry in the series, it's absolutely a welcome return for the series that fans will eat up.

If you've been eagerly waiting for a healthy mix of farming and fighting like I have, here comes the delightful Rune Factory 5 for Switch.

March 22, 2022 Read Review

Overall, Rune Factory 5 is a complicated game, mostly because of how high expectations are for it. After a decade of waiting, there simply should have been more quality and quantity regarding the new features that were added, as well as the ones the series is known for.

Over the past two weeks, I’ve spent countless hours in Rigbarth, the main town of Rune Factory 5. And I feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface. That’s a double-edged sword. On one hand, it’s a compliment to the massive amount of sheer content that this game delivers. Rune Factory 5 has a lot going on. On the other hand, it also points to a general lack of focus that could bring all those disparate things together.

We are coming up on ten years since the original release of Rune Factory 4, and two years since the newly released version, Rune Factory 4 Special. Since then there has been a ton of work into bringing the next game in the series to fruition, so it’s finally time to dive into Rune Factory 5. This time around, there are some significant changes made to the game, some of which were even covered in our Early Impressions about a month ago. Thankfully, I’ve been able to buckle down and really ...

Rune Factory 5 feels exactly like what it set out to be: more Rune Factory for fans to enjoy. It doesn't add a slew of new things from a mechanical perspective, but it offers a brand new world to explore with more characters to enjoy along the way which is not too different from exactly how new Story of Seasons titles handle things. The biggest thing holding it back is the framerate, which is especially disappointing given the title has been out in Japan for nearly a year and seemingly hasn't been fixed. There's a dynamic resolution option which can be turned off for slightly improved framerate, but nothing shockingly better. There's a lot to love in the gameplay loop, characters and endearing story, and that's what ties it together for anyone who can sit through the choppy framerate. For those who have been waiting for another entry in the series, Rune Factory 5 delivers more of what fans love in the brand new fantastic world of farming, taming and romance.

The combat is easy enough to get into, there are a ton of things to do, and some of the supporting cast will make you smile. I clocked about 64 hours into this game and I’m pretty sure I could have done more, so it’s at least a bang for its buck if anything.
