Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem Reviews

Professional reviews from gaming critics

Siberian Mayhem recalls Sam's glory days in the best way, providing a bombastic adventure that doesn't overstay its welcome.

Siberian Mayhem keeps the experience fresh while sticking to the roots of what makes Serious Sam so great: ruthless alien-killing action with plenty of puns along the way.

Jan 22, 2022 Read Review

A lean and mean addition to the Serious Sam family that experiments with a few new toys, and offers more of the same Serious Sam goodness we’ve been accustomed to. It has the odd instance of unnecessary padding via one too many gunfights, but overall keeps a breezy, brutal pace.

Siberian Mayhem is a short but great horde first-person shooter with intense fights and improved level design. It won't win over any Sam detractors, but if you love this style of shooter, it's a must-play. It's the best Serious Sam content in a long time.

There’s skill progression where you can punch things to heal or learn to ride enemies or get even better at shooting the hell out of things. It’s got everything: screaming guys chasing you around, explosions, shotguns, secret areas, single player, co-op, achievements, workshop packages, even benchmarks. This is one of the few games where I ran out of swears yelling at all the things trying to kill me. Not one of them turned out to be an enemy I had to work with where we discovered humans and ungodly horrors have a lot in common, a lot more similarities than differences, and developed a deep br...

Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem adds directly to Serious Sam 4 without changing much. Despite being a standalone expansion, players should go through Serious Sam 4 first. Only after, should Siberian Mayhem be considered for purchase? Still, it is best experienced as a co-op making it highly dependent on the active player base and regional ping.

We tell you, it’s a good game! It’s not average! It might have some problems here and there, but you have to admit it is a “Good” game.

Who cares about restraint when you’re Serious Sam?

Full of secrets, desolate and still somewhat gorgeous – Siberia might be the home of bloodshed you were missing in Serious Sam 4. All for the low low(?) price of 30 quid.

Jan 26, 2022 Read Review

I have always liked the Serious Sam franchise, even though I honestly feel it has never managed to to hit its full potential. Especially with its latest “canonical” installment, Serious Sam 4, which, despite having some good ideas, suffered from a myriad of design flaws and technical issues, whether you played it on PC or console. Siberian Mayhem is the latest entry in the long running franchise and acts as a standalone expansion to that base game. Did Croteam learn from past mistakes? Ca...

How much fun you’ll have in the bleak, frozen landscape depends on how much you are still smitten with mid-90s first-person shooter mechanics. Serious Sam would rather die than apologize for being what he is. Those looking for an evolution or some sort of next step in gameplay design may as well look elsewhere. All encounters in the game play out exactly the same way they have for the last thirty years. You can mix things up with weapon choices, co-op, and difficulty settings, but that’s about it. 2016’s Doom received loads of (justified) praise for finding a way to push this genre forward. Si...

For over twenty long years now, Serious Sam is an FPS franchise that has been trucking along. Inspired and in a very close vein to boomer shooters of today’s past, it wouldn’t be far fetched to liken the series to Duke Nukem. A grizzled male protagonist with a gruff voice spouting corny jokes that feel as old as himself. Sending ammunition and explosives through armies of aliens… It’s something we all know too well. Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem, the latest adventure in the series, i...
