A long time ago (also known as 2005) in a galaxy far, far away, Star Wars: Republic Commando came to the original Xbox and Windows. This first-person shooter ha

As I said at the outset, Star Wars: Republic Commando is one of the single greatest Star Wars games ever made. While that largely holds true on Switch, it is unfortunate that it doesn’t really provide a definitive experience. At best you get a higher resolution but with pared back visuals and rough performance, it's somewhat difficult to justify outside of handheld mode against the original version. It is a shame that simply loading the original Xbox version disc into a Xbox Series X produces a better remaster than this official remaster. This is still an excellent game, and the Switch versi…

A touch of paint was added to Star Wars: Republic Commando, but the brush was small. Gameplay feels just like it did in 2005, which is great because of the solid foundation, but this enhanced port can feel like it runs slow at the worst times. There were plenty of reasons to love it: it mixed the tactical, squad-based shooting mechanics from the Rainbow Six games with one of the grittiest and darkest settings in the history of George Lucas’ franchise. It portrayed the dirtiness and savagery of the Clone Wars like very few Star Wars products have ever managed before. Furthermore, it was backed by the first license...

Players join the fight against the Trade Federation as Delta Squad leader RC-1138, otherwise known as Boss. The beginning of the game depicts the clone commando's first moments on Kamino before going into his training and his meetup with his brothers in arms. After an impressively tight opening, Republic Commando is light on cutscenes, preferring to tell its story as missions unfold. The game also never breaks away from its first person perspective, letting the player immerse themselves in the conflict and the chaos of the scenarios Delta Squad endure over their years of wartime service. While...
