Starship Troopers: Terran Command

A solid, slightly chaotic RTS that nails some satisfying tactical stand up bugfights, but could use a little more bite

When the issues of a game are rolled and stomped by its greatness, then it’s something to invest on if you have some spare.

Starship Troopers: Terran Command is a pretty standard RTS game that manages to evoke the feel of Starship Troopers magnificently.

Starship Troopers: Terran Command is an interesting experience. It doesn’t do anything particularly original, or push the RTS genre in any way, but it perfectly mimics the aesthetic and humour of the original film, making for a pleasant, if somewhat frustrating RTS experience.

Starship Troopers: Terran Command does a lot of interesting things with the material from the movie franchise, but that creativity does not extend to mission objectives.

Starship Troopers: Terran Command tries to capture the campiness and action-packed thrills of the movie, but it falters just like the invasion of Klendathu.

Starship Troopers - Terran Command takes place on the desert planet of Kwalasha, the home of a mining civilization that fell under attack by the Arachnid. After a devastating defeat, Kwalasha is the Federation's last hope of fueling the intense war effort against Starship Troopers' Arachnid armies. Players must amass their forces to defeat the bug army, who seek to eliminate their enemies through overwhelming numbers rather than a planned strategy. Starship Troopers is, and likely always will be, a film I love. There's no doubt that it has more than a few things you can criticise it over, but it's a very entertaining film with a lot to say about humanity. Very little of what it has to say is positive too. I could get political here and start saying which sections of culture it's representing, but we'll avoid that in the review. I will say that Starship Troopers: Terran Command looks to bring across this absurd view of false superiority and does it reasonably well, but there needs to be a good game too. Does it achieve this?
