The game straddles the line between fun and annoying at times. Playing for extended periods will surely end in burn out, but for the short spurts played it offers some fun and exciting gameplay among some rather boring backdrops and generic story.

Strike Suit Zero Director’s Cut harkens back to a simpler time of gaming that is reminiscent of those classic arcade space sims as you fought your way through

If you’re a fan of the golden era 3D space shooters that permeated gaming in the mid to late 90s, I can virtually guarantee you’ll enjoy Strike Suit Zero. That being said, it is at best a solid and enjoyable entry in the genre that doesn’t do much to advance it. Its performance levels make it a bit of a rough ride as well. All that said, its grasp on the genre is solid enough that I still found myself having a very good time playing it. If you’re hankering for a classic 3D space shooter you can take on the go, give Strike Suit Zero a shot.

Strike Suit Zero: Director's Cut provides a great deal of fundamental successes with a great deal of equally fundamental flaws. Though the gameplay is solid and engaging, the weak narrative, delayed progression, and sparse gameplay variety leave this game only to those who love mechs.

Strike Suit Zero has a lot of things going for it – a cool story, good combat, pretty visuals, and an excellent soundtrack – but it’s let down by poor mission design and a frustrating checkpoint system. Those looking for a space combat game will find a lot to like here, but one can’t help but wonder how much better the game would have been with more of a focus on tightly paced, frantic battles, and less on the Suit’s ability to transform.

Strike Suit Zero: Director’s Cut delivers on the promise of offering intense space combat to those long overdue for a fix. Unfortunately, crushing difficulties, confusing design choices, and a steep learning curve keep this from being the great game it was so close to being. The highs are undeniably out of this world, but the missteps are sure to intermittently bring you back down to Earth. We can still easily slap on a stamp of approval for seasoned fans of the genre – especially with no other alternatives on Xbox One – though anyone that has yet to attend flight school likely won’t find this...

Strike Suit Zero: Director's Cut isn't a bad game, it's just not a particularly great one. If you're screaming out for a space combat game in the Colony Wars mould, however, this will certainly fit the bill. Just don't expect to be playing Strike Suit Zero: Director's Cut for a particularly long time after you've beaten the missions the first time around.

There are moments where Strike Suit Zero reminds me of a more earthy Star Fox title. Most of of the story is communicated through a communication link between ships that brings to mind the chatter between Fox and his buddies, sans the annoying toad. But in short, if you are looking for lots of action set against a deep space backdrop, Strike Suit Zero: Director’s Cut should scratch that itch effectively as long as it lasts.
