Tales from the Borderlands: Episode 2 - Atlas Mugged Reviews

Professional reviews from gaming critics

Tales from the Borderlands is killing it in just about every capacity. The writers, the aesthetic, the voice actors, the gameplay, everything is living up to what I would want out of a non-FPS Borderlands game. But the humor does rely heavily on knowing the Borderlands universe. So if you haven't played any of the games, you might want to play through them before you pick up Tales. (Just a heads up, you can skip the first one if you want to get straight to the good stuff.)

Tales from the Borderlands Episode 2: Atlas Mugged makes the most out of its short length by packing every scene with hilarious dialogue, emotional reveals, and legitimately tough decisions. Old characters gain additional layers, new characters steal the scenes they’re in, and the final scene propels the core mystery forward in a great way. After the first two acts of Rhys and Fiona’s adventure, I consider myself completely on board for Telltale’s wild ride.

Tales from the Borderlands: Episode 2 – Atlas Mugged was a lot of fun to play. I just wish the wait between episodes was shorter and that the segments themselves had a little more meat to them. That I want more now is a testament to how good they are, but it’s also a frustration with the episodic format. If you enjoy the goofy Borderlands sense of humour from prior games or had a chance to play the first episode, rest assured you will find plenty to like in this latest release.

After nearly four months since the first entry, the next installment of Telltale's narrative take on Borderlands is finally here. While the series' debut started slow and gradually built up to an enticing finale, the second episode struggles between its exciting opening and cliffhanger ending.
