I happened to come across The Darkside Detective: A Fumble in the Dark by pure chance. While searching for a new game to play before some of the bigger titles arriving this summer, I noticed a retro-styled point-and-click adventure with a silly yet interesting premise. I had no idea this was actually a sequel to the game The Darkside Detective, as I’d never heard of that game before either. I decided to give it a shot and wow am I glad I did!

Come and visit the totally normal and totally NOT haunted city of Twin Lakes. Enjoy such delights as black market cookie vendors, retirement home raves and very naughty spirit clowns. Somehow these strange yet common occurrences go largely unnoticed by the populace. Luckily for Twin Lakes, the two heroes of The Darkside Detective: A Fumble in the Dark have a knack for bringing the law down on any dark and paranormal happenings that this city (and beyond) can throw at them.

A Fumble in the Dark may have lost sight of what made the first iteration great in some respects, but for those who want more of the charismatic duo and excellent observational humor, this is an admirable sequel. More is on the way, as well, so for those who worry we’ll be waiting another three or four years for Francis and Dooley to return, fear not. As for me, I’m okay with the break if it means an assurance of quality in the future.

A fantastic follow up to The Darkside Detective. A Fumble in the Dark is even more of the same irreverent action and spooktacular silliness from the best beat cops in Twin Lakes PD

Definitely an amazing step forward from the first title in the series and I hope it won’t be their last!
