Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Extraction Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Extraction is one of the most intense and exciting co-op experiences available today. It's an incredible addition to the Siege universe and one that stands alone as a fantastic demonstration of innovation in an otherwise stagnating genre.
Rainbow Six Extraction is Ubisoft’s latest attempt in the squad-based tactical shooter area with a new twist that works for the series. Now, if only they would address the game’s balancing concerns.
Expanding the Rainbow Six universe into the supernatural for the first time, Rainbow Six Extraction takes the Operators we’ve grown to love over the years in PVP sensation Rainbow Six Siege, and places them against an alien threat that must be vanquished. There’s an intriguing setup and some glimmer of narrative hope at the beginning, but really this is an excuse to take the tactical gunplay and slick production values that have been refined in Siege and drop them into an exciting new sur...
I remember seeing the initial coverage for this title and thinking, “That looks interesting, but I doubt it holds my interest long without a good story”. I was really freaking wrong there, as this story is not good, but the gameplay loop is so satisfying that I could see myself playing this with members of the Xbox Era team and our community for a long time to come thanks to it releasing day one on Game Pass. It’s an interesting take on what is normally a very surface-level genre. Instead of focusing on giant set pieces and massive enemy counts TC’s Rainbow Six: Extraction asks you to take you...
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction thinks outside of the box to provide a well-realised PvE experience that builds upon Siege’s already solid core tenets. While its longevity has yet to be proven or seen, Extraction’s addictive blend of cooperative, rogue-like, and stealth mechanics offers an engaging Rainbow Six experience, even if it’s a bit out there.
Extraction is a bold reimagining of the co-op shooter that never came after the cancellation of Patriots. Some issues that needs to be worked out, but still a solid game for co-op fans.
Have you heard of that Ubisoft Clancy-verse game with the virus threatening to wipe out America? No, not The Division 1 or 2. No, not Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow either. Rainbow Six Siege? Almost, but that’s not really what that game is about. Instead, I’m talking about Rainbow Six Extraction – the decidedly sci-fi take on the Tom Clancy terrorist takedown franchise.
Though progression feels too closely tied to a mediocre challenge system, Rainbow Six Extraction offers fun incursions against a parasitic alien threat and rewards teamwork.
Rainbow Six Extraction feels more like an expansion for Six Siege than a standalone game. It features a strong foundation that Ubisoft fails to build upon. Extraction can be a lot of fun playing with friends, but not so much if you plan on playing it alone.
Rainbow Six Extraction is a mixed bag of right and wrong. It’s carried primarily from its tactical, yet intense gameplay. In concept, it strays completely away from what actually defines a Tom Clancy game.
While it has a few nice ideas, Rainbow Six Extraction is nonetheless a generic first-person shooter that feels more like an expansion, rather than a full-blooded game. I’m not entirely sure Tom Clancy would approve.
Rainbow Six Extraction is now out and boy oh boy, do we have a lot to say about it. One thing we can't say in this review is that it's going to be nice, though. Read about all the missed opportunities and find out whether the game is still worth buying.
