When writing reviews, I caution myself against hyperbole or overselling a game, even when I enjoy it quite a bit. In the age of hot takes and reaching for engagement, the temptation is there to elevate games in a bombastic, eye-grabbing way. That said, I can’t help but lavish this game with praise. Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. (World Stage) is a fighter’s fighter from people who made such a fundamentally strong game and combat so deeply rooted in a style that strives towards realism over flashiness that it could be overlooked. But it is for exactly those reasons that this game whose origin…
Thanks to meaningful new additions such as crossplay, rollback netcode, and a meaty single-player mode, Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage cements istelf as one of the very best fighting games currently available.
Virtua Fighter is the OG. Sega’s pioneering 3D fighter wowed us in the arcades in 1993 with it’s new fangled polygon based graphics and almost “sim-like” fighting mechanics which was a stark contrast to the 2D sprite based “magic” fighters like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat that we had been playing up until that point.
Based on Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown, Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage gives players an optimized gaming experience in their quest to become the world’s best fighter.
Virtua Fighter was there at the glorious dawn of the 3D fighter genre, holding the line against the other big titles of the time like Tekken, Dead or Alive, and Battle Arena Toshinden. Well, maybe not the last one, but the series has been throwing hands since the age of the very first polygons. So go ahead and toss a credit in and join me as we take a look at the latest fighting game to land on the Nintendo Switch 2, Virtua Fighter 5: R.E.V.O World Stage.
Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O World Stage comes to Nintendo Switch 2 with all the content and features of the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S versions. The Switch 2 version holds up well with 60 FPS gameplay in handheld and docked mode, with the visuals holding up just as much with only a few minor visual imperfections. The inclusion of cross-play and rollback netcode also ensures that gamers on Switch 2 aren't left behind, either.
Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage finishes the job that its prior iterations left unfinished. While its new single-player content is modest and some choices are frustrating, the game’s real strength remains its fast, intuitive, and endlessly deep human-to-human combat. For anyone willing to keep striving, this is the most convenient way to experience Virtua Fighter today.
Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage is the latest edition of the two-decades-old (yes, really) 3D fighting game, and one that finally makes it available for modern consoles. It plays as well as it ever has, with a steep but mega satisfying learning curve, and an incredibly diverse roster of characters. World Stage mode is a fun little single player addition, but lackluster customization and long matchmaking times remain as the game’s weak points.
Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage is the definitive version of this beloved game, thanks to the titular new mode and Rollback Netcode.
A useful upgrade to previous iterations of Virtua Fighter 5 and while it still exhibits the same old flaws, it ably demonstrates why this is still one of the most revered fighting game series in history.
Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage arrives bringing the legendary fighting series back with some long-requested updates. This expanded release takes everything from the earlier 2025 PC version and adds features that should have been there from the start. Whether you’re a veteran player who’s been throwing down in arcades for years or someone curious about what makes this series special we’ll cover how Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage stacks up as both a competitive fighter and a...
The title aims to strengthen the bond with players by introducing a new single-player mode and a significant improvement to the online experience.
Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage brings back the action of the AM2 classic to all ecosystems that missed the boat on Ultimate's arrival back in 2022 and R.E.V.O. has done earlier this year. It was clearly a wild revitalization of the 3D fighter that is meant to stand alone through a more…
