Virtua Fighter is the OG. Sega’s pioneering 3D fighter wowed us in the arcades in 1993 with it’s new fangled polygon based graphics and almost “sim-like” fighting mechanics which was a stark contrast to the 2D sprite based “magic” fighters like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat that we had been playing up until that point.

Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage is the latest edition of the two-decades-old (yes, really) 3D fighting game, and one that finally makes it available for modern consoles. It plays as well as it ever has, with a steep but mega satisfying learning curve, and an incredibly diverse roster of characters. World Stage mode is a fun little single player addition, but lackluster customization and long matchmaking times remain as the game’s weak points.

Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O World Stage comes to Nintendo Switch 2 with all the content and features of the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S versions. The Switch 2 version holds up well with 60 FPS gameplay in handheld and docked mode, with the visuals holding up just as much with only a few minor visual imperfections. The inclusion of cross-play and rollback netcode also ensures that gamers on Switch 2 aren't left behind, either.
