Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine

There seems to be a never-ending supply of Warhammer games in recent years, with some amazing hits like Rogue Trader and Boltgun. We’ve even had games like Darktide, which, whilst flawed, were actually incredibly fun. Fans of the 40,000 series have been eating well recently, and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 might just very well be the best one yet. I guess the emperor really does provide.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is a masterclass in understanding your subject matter, delivering not only an incredible gaming experience for you and your friends but also serving as a worthy successor to a 13-year-old classic.

Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 2 is an amazing, epic ride through a glorious hellscape.  Visceral combat is matched by stunning graphics to create a title that never relents in being as over the top as possible.  It is one of my favorite titles of the year so far, and one I cannot wait to dive back into as post-launch content starts to stream in.

Considering the entire package, Space Marine 2 sets a new high bar for Warhammer 40k games.

Fighting as a Space Marine in the Warhammer 40k universe is daunting. Powerful aliens threaten humanity and the Space Marines are the best humanity has to offer. Against swarms of Tyranids, humanity is slowly getting pushed back on two planets. It’s up to you to lead a squad and fight back the alien threat. While fighting in the war, you’ll uncover a dangerous plot that could threaten the future of the Space Marines.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine is a near perfect experience on the Steam Deck once you adjust a couple of settings.

If you’ve seen any of the trailers and gameplay demos of Space Marine 2 and thought, “Wow that looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun” then you’d be right. It’s a violent rollercoaster ride that almost perfectly adapts the 40K universe into playable form. If you’ve ever wanted to step into the shoes of one of the Emperor’s Angels, this is the best opportunity to live out that power fantasy.

Saber Interactive has unleashed the long-awaited sequel to the 2011 cult classic. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 storms onto modern platforms with enhanced visuals, refined combat mechanics, and a renewed focus on cooperative gameplay. But does it stand worthy among its predecessors in the vast Warhammer gaming universe?

Visceral combat, excellent set pieces, and plenty of Warhammer 40,000 fanservice, but is there enough launch content to satisfy less diehard fans?

Space Marine may stumble here and there, but manages to remain entertaining from start to finish. For every moment where a character gets stuck on part of the environment, has an animation that breaks, or just randomly pops into the world, I’m left remembering great boss battles and encounters that made me feel like a badass. It may not be the best or most original action game, but it’s a fine first outing for the franchise, and a rare gem for Warhammer fans.

It's rare that a game, one that hasn't had a groundswell of support for a sequel over the past decade - and one that isn't tied into a nostalgic trend, gets a sequel so long after the original. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is exactly what you think it is: another (rather fun) Space Marine game, albeit one with clunky new mechanics and a pretty forgettable story.
