Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 feels like a fever dream. Even if you aren't a fan of 40K, it's hard not to admire the raw artistry on display from Saber Interactive here. If you are, I suspect Space Marine 2 will make you very, very happy.

There seems to be a never-ending supply of Warhammer games in recent years, with some amazing hits like Rogue Trader and Boltgun. We’ve even had games like Darktide, which, whilst flawed, were actually incredibly fun. Fans of the 40,000 series have been eating well recently, and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 might just very well be the best one yet. I guess the emperor really does provide.

More so than in the first game, the developers were really able to capture the spirit and look of the Warhammer 40k universe, with these towering gothic cathedrals looming over you, or the dangerous jungles with massive plants that look like they’d kill you with a touch. The models themselves, from the characters to vehicles, feel as if they were ripped straight from the tabletop figures as well with how detailed they are. I’d sometimes just pop open photo mode to stare at all the pieces of the space marine armor, with that signature blue coloring, it really feels like they put in the extra ef...

If you’ve seen any of the trailers and gameplay demos of Space Marine 2 and thought, “Wow that looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun” then you’d be right. It’s a violent rollercoaster ride that almost perfectly adapts the 40K universe into playable form. If you’ve ever wanted to step into the shoes of one of the Emperor’s Angels, this is the best opportunity to live out that power fantasy.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine Master Crafted Edition is an adequate remaster that makes 2011’s third-person action game easier to play on modern machines while improving how it looks and sounds. None of its additions address the original’s fundamental issues, preferring to leave it largely as it was.
