Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 feels like a fever dream. Even if you aren't a fan of 40K, it's hard not to admire the raw artistry on display from Saber Interactive here. If you are, I suspect Space Marine 2 will make you very, very happy.

Saber Interactive has unleashed the long-awaited sequel to the 2011 cult classic. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 storms onto modern platforms with enhanced visuals, refined combat mechanics, and a renewed focus on cooperative gameplay. But does it stand worthy among its predecessors in the vast Warhammer gaming universe?

There seems to be a never-ending supply of Warhammer games in recent years, with some amazing hits like Rogue Trader and Boltgun. We’ve even had games like Darktide, which, whilst flawed, were actually incredibly fun. Fans of the 40,000 series have been eating well recently, and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 might just very well be the best one yet. I guess the emperor really does provide.

It's rare that a game, one that hasn't had a groundswell of support for a sequel over the past decade - and one that isn't tied into a nostalgic trend, gets a sequel so long after the original. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is the 2024 sequel to the 2011 game, naturally made by a completely different developer under a completely different publisher due to the death of THQ. It's not that the original wasn't successful; it was one of THQ's few success stories during their final years, but with so much time passed, will this be the sequel that...

More so than in the first game, the developers were really able to capture the spirit and look of the Warhammer 40k universe, with these towering gothic cathedrals looming over you, or the dangerous jungles with massive plants that look like they’d kill you with a touch. The models themselves, from the characters to vehicles, feel as if they were ripped straight from the tabletop figures as well with how detailed they are. I’d sometimes just pop open photo mode to stare at all the pieces of the space marine armor, with that signature blue coloring, it really feels like...

Fighting as a Space Marine in the Warhammer 40k universe is daunting. Powerful aliens threaten humanity and the Space Marines are the best humanity has to offer. Against swarms of Tyranids, humanity is slowly getting pushed back on two planets. It’s up to you to lead a squad and fight back the alien threat. While fighting in the war, you’ll uncover a dangerous plot that could threaten the future of the Space Marines.

Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 2 is an amazing, epic ride through a glorious hellscape. Visceral combat is matched by stunning graphics to create a title that never relents in being as over the top as possible. It is one of my favorite titles of the year so far, and one I cannot wait to dive back into as post-launch content starts to stream in.

Visceral combat, excellent set pieces, and plenty of Warhammer 40,000 fanservice, but is there enough launch content to satisfy less diehard fans?

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is exactly what you think it is: another (rather fun) Space Marine game, albeit one with clunky new mechanics and a pretty forgettable story.

Considering the entire package, Space Marine 2 sets a new high bar for Warhammer 40k games.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine II was a blast from start to finish. Only held back by a limited accessibility offering and some technical issues.
Read Full ReviewIf you’ve seen any of the trailers and gameplay demos of Space Marine 2 and thought, “Wow that looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun” then you’d be right. It’s a violent rollercoaster ride that almost perfectly adapts the 40K universe into playable form. If you’ve ever wanted to step into the shoes of one of the Emperor’s Angels, this is the best opportunity to live out that power fantasy.

Warhammer 40K: Space Marine is a nerd’s wet dream come true, with gory and brutal combat in both ranged and melee aspects that are intensely satisfying and clattered in style. A great campaign and added multiplayer bonus offer great variety in action and gameplay, with virtually no flaw in sight. And while Dawn of War is the ultimate fan tribute, but slightly less accessible, Space Marine shatters the boundaries of the lore, to create a high quality production for the masses. Gamers will be hard-pressed to find a better third person action game around. Hats off to Relic; this game...

In a year of big-hitters, Space Marine is one hell of a surprise. The single-player campaign is meaty and full of confidence, backed up by a multiplayer realm that adds to the game’s longevity. Many would have shrugged it off in a month that sees Gears of War come to an end, but there is room for Relic’s love letter to Warhammer players. This room may not have been apparent before release, but Space Marine has comfortably forced its way into the limelight, confirming its place as one of 2...

Once upon a time, Warhammer 40,000 to us denoted kids in Games Workshop prodding around figurines with little red sticks, or painstakingly painting tiny miniatures, or reading White Dwarf magazine. Since playing Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine however, we're happy to associate the Games Workshop universe with third-person action games, as Relic Entertainment's first foray into the genre having forged itself a solid reputation making Warhammer RTS titles for the PC, is surprisingly competent st...

Space Marine may stumble here and there, but manages to remain entertaining from start to finish. For every moment where a character gets stuck on part of the environment, has an animation that breaks, or just randomly pops into the world, I’m left remembering great boss battles and encounters that made me feel like a badass. It may not be the best or most original action game, but it’s a fine first outing for the franchise, and a rare gem for Warhammer fans.
