Werewolf: The Apocalypse - Heart of the Forest is a great visual novel with tons of impactful choices, great visuals, and excellent sound design. While it slowly loses steam after the introductory chapters, it’s still well worth multiple playthroughs.
While I wish it had been longer, there had to have been something great there to make me play it four times in a row, right? The first two times I began a new playthrough, I was up until the moon fell away and the sun started peeking through my curtains. Like a great book, I just couldn’t put it down. Heart of the Forest brings an eerie setting, some fantastic writing, and an atmosphere to remember. The game is heavy on text (because, you know, visual novel), but if you're willing to invest the time, it will repay you with a powerful adventure.
A sort and sweet visual novel which gives the player plenty of choice and leverages its source material well, only occasionally stumbling in the writing department.

Helping to set the mood is the art and music, and they absolutely nail it. The art has a beautifully savage, primal quality that vividly renders every scene in the brain. There’s some interpretation involved in it, since the characters tend to be indistinct and environments hazy, and is a deliberate effort to engage the imagination rather than just spoon feed players the impression of a character’s physical features and mannerisms that (ironic, given how lacking the narrative is in nuance).
