This remaster revives a forgotten adventure and introduces audiences to a creative evolution system based on alchemy and soul fusion.
Enemies are visable on screen when walking through dungeons. If there are multiple groups of enemies on screen, consecutive battles are triggered where the player isn’t healed between battles. Claus’ HP and MP automatically restore after combat. The homunculi use SP for all their abilities, not restored after combat. It has to be replenished by resting in town.
WiZmans World Re;Try is a really good remaster of the 2010 Jaleco-developed RPG with quality of life changes and features for modern consoles and PC. The game's turn-based combat system and intriguing story are clear highlights, but the lack of voice acting and auto saves make the remaster feel just a cut below being great. Despite that, RPG fans will have a really fun time, thanks to the balance between fun turn-based gameplay and tough challenges with its daunting boss fights.
Trying to connect with a remaster of a game that I have zero prior knowledge of is an interesting task. Usually, you can compare against the original to really appreciate what is in this new version. Even with titles where I didn’t play the OG like Slay the Princess: Pristine Cut, there are still plenty of stills and videos everywhere to grade against.
