World of Warcraft: Midnight Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
World of Warcraft: Midnight is an excellent follow-up to The War Within and refines all that makes WOW great, providing some of the best MMO gaming I’ve had in a long time.
Blizzard’s hot streak continues with Midnight, World of Warcraft’s latest expansion, which further builds atop (and below) the world of Azeroth. The main storyline offers poignant commentary on religion, family conflict, and generational trauma through its well-written characters. The long-requested housing feature finally debuts, offering impressive building and customization systems and introducing a new reward vector that enriches almost every activity in the game: decor collecting. Some of Blizzard's best work in years wrestles with bugs and design issues, but still comes out on top.
World of Warcraft: Midnight is off to a fantastic start, with a campaign that, while uneven in places, ends on a strong note. Paired with an excellent new casual gameplay pillar in player housing, as well as more dungeons, delves, and class options, it already feels like a strong expansion.
World of Warcraft: Midnight is one of the most fun, addictive, approachable, and engaging expansions, but an inconsistent narrative brings down the second part of the Worldsoul Saga.
With a new level cap of 90, you'll set off in service of taking out Xal'atath and saving Azeroth. If you're not familiar with the narrative of WoW in the modern age, it's been going places, sometimes to the chagrin of long-time players. In Midnight, it's time to saddle up against the Voidstorm and the entity Xal'atath, working out of the classic zone of Quel'Thalas. Midnight is a direct sequel to The War Within, and the predecessor to The Last Titan as part of the Worldsoul Saga trilogy.
For all the good World of Warcraft: Midnight does, there are decisions being made that hold it back from being an all-time great expansion. I've said it before, but I'll keep saying it: the add-on changes feel like they were done with no real plan in place. Preys are a great feature, but I want to see a long-term vision here, especially because Delves are now delivering that vision. I'm excited to play through Midnight's seasons and experience everything the game offers heading into The Last Titan, but I also hope that Blizzard lets the dev team fully cook. It feels like they didn't wit...
World of Warcraft returns with its latest expansion, the second of the three part Worldsoul Saga, Midnight. This massive overarching story has been keeping fans of the MMO intrigued for the past couple years now, and as of now we are, nearly, halfway through the fate of Azaroth and what is starting to feel like a Marvel Comics level of world destruction. The main question though, is what is new in Midnight, and how does it compare to the rest of this game’s longevity?
