World of Warships

I was eager to get some hands-on time with World of Warships mostly even though I don’t really go in for vehicular combat games. I know Wargaming.net has a solid history of producing quality freemium MMOs, starting with their flagship title World of Tanks, which was released back in 2011. A quick glance at the strategy and action, as well as variable gameplay and customization, in World of Tanks had me interested in World of Warships.

When it all comes together around two competent teams working together, World of Warships is a glorious pre-World War 2 admiralty fantasy come to life. This is Wargaming's richest and most rewarding team game to date, with the most diverse set of classes and skills of any of its games. The irony is that this also means World of Warships is also the least consistent of its games, with higher peaks at the cost of lower valleys while you wait out games that have already been decided. But the view from those peaks more than makes up for those dives beneath the waves.

Wargaming.net has created a fantastic presence in the online space with its historical combat games. World of Tanks burst onto the scene and rose to power as one of the best battle arena games created in years. It stayed true to history and quickly gained the respect of millions of players. World of Warplanes had a tougher time of it. The key to these games is having maps which give players a chance to compete, not too many obstacles in the open air.

World of Warships serves up high-stakes action that mixes tense moments with realistic action. Yes, it can require some grinding and won't be everyone's cup of tea, but it's one of the best naval combat (and free to play) titles out there.

World of Warships is basically virtual Battleship only with much more action and strategy involved.
