Worms is at its finest when it sticks to what it is good at – multiplayer blast-em-ups. Though online multiplayer will never replace local for this kind of game, and though online is how I play most of my multiplayer these days, Worms will never fail to get a smile from me.
Should you get Worms Revolution? Well, if you’re a lapsed Worms player like myself, then absolutely. It’s the same classic Worms gameplay with (optional) gameplay tweaks and a lovely new coat of paint. If you’re a die-hard fan, then the classes add a new element to multiplayer competition, and make the customisation options even more robust. All told, this is a great game for a great price.
Worms Revolution might be more of an evolution than a revolution, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. Rome was not built in a day and battles are not won in a single fortnight. Take the changes made in stride, and accept the package for what it is: a refinement of a time-tested formula. After all, if it isn’t broke, why fix it?
At the end of the day, Revolution is indeed the best Worms title gamers have seen in some time. However, it's not the game-changer that the title might imply it is - rather, it's an improvement (one that could lead to great things down the line). Team17 have produced a competent title that fans of the series, both old and new, should enjoy but it falls short of being a true "Revolution."
