Elden Ring: Nightreign Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Elden Ring Nightreign is a game that understands its own identity and hones in on that. The returning bosses are a treat for older FromSoft players, and the new mechanics are fun yet challenging to wrap your head around. With future content planned, I see myself returning to Nightreign with each new boss drop for years to come.
Soulsborne meets Fortnite with the weight and heft of bosses and combat expected from a relation of Elden Ring. Just beware the dichotomy.
It may be missing some build depth or profoundness, but to have a bite-sized piece of Elden Ring that I can jump into whenever I want is a treasure worth the price.
Elden Ring Nightreign is a very clever game. FromSoftware has produced a multiplayer-focused “Souls” experience that borrows some of the best ideas from the multiplayer giants while retaining the Soulslike formula and style. It’s not really for me. I’m a mega Souls fan, but I’m there for the dark fantasy storytelling and exploration more than the action and bosses. But I can appreciate what FromSoftware has done with this, and I certainly think the team has nailed what they set out to achieve with it.
There's nothing more satisfying than finally overcoming a tough challenge that has been haunting you with your friends.
I’m firmly in camp FromSoftware, but I’ve had an interesting journey in getting there. I’ve always appreciated the likes of Dark Souls and Bloodborne — as my latter review can attest to — but there was a time when the very gameplay loop that’s now formed the core of the Soulslike genre wasn’t my cup of tea.
Elden Ring Nightreign is the spinoff no one expected but instantly makes sense. FromSoftware goes full experimental, tossing out slow-burn exploration for something faster, tighter, and more frantic. It’s a roguelike remix of the Lands Between where you sprint through 30–45 minute co-op runs, grab loot on the fly, crush bosses, and take down a big bad Nightlord before time runs out. The soul of Elden Ring is still here, but the rhythm has changed, and it hits hard.
ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN takes the beloved Souls formula and transforms it into something entirely different – a cooperative roguelike experience that’s both thrilling and frustrating in equal measure. In this review of ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN, we’ll break down what makes Nightreign special, examine its biggest challenges, and help you decide if this ambitious spin-off is worth your time and money. This isn’t your typical Elden Ring adventure where you can take your time exploring at your ...
FromSoftware shifts focus to a multiplayer-oriented take on the Souls franchise. This first foray into a primarily cooperative mode feels like a rough draft of an ultimately fun experience
Intro and Gameplay As massive fans of ELDEN RING , we couldn’t wait to not only see more of Nightreign but to finally get our hands on it. Now, after several rounds of ups, downs, cheers, jeers, smiles, and some frowns, we are ready to report our take on this divisive yet lovingly crafting game.
Elden Ring Nightreign is a standalone multiplayer co-op action survival game that challenges players to band together in order to defeat the Nightlord.
Nightreign isn’t even a full-priced game, and I’ve already put over 100 fun-filled hours into it, with more to come. I’ll take that any day over a full-priced 15 to 20-hour “cinematic experience” the industry seems to be in love with. The way Nightreign blends the replayability of a rogue-lite game with the skillful nature you come to expect of a FromSoft game is nothing short of amazing.
