Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is an example of a perfect single-player game. It is brimming with content in every corner, and you'll likely discover something new even after 30 hours. If you're a veteran fan, this decade of waiting was more than worth it. But if you're a newcomer, X is the best place to kick off your expedition for the first time.
Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is a reminder that X is one of the best entries in Xenoblade despite its differences. It's a weird and wonderful game that stands out in a franchise filled with bangers. This version doubles down on its strengths and supplements some of its weaknesses to make for the best version of X, and is a must buy for any JRPG fanatic.
Nintendo and Monolith Soft have brought the remaining Xenoblade title to Switch. No longer trapped on the Wii U, Xenoblade Chronicles X takes the opportunity to spread its wings with aplomb.
As much as I love the Xenoblade Chronicles franchise now, I find it hilarious that my first foray into this universe by Monolith Soft was via the one "spinoff" that they did via X. It was originally on the Wii U, and we didn't even know it was a Xenoblade…
Xenoblade Chronicles X is bigger and better than ever on Nintendo Switch. The numerous quality-of-life upgrades and additions make the experience even more satisfying, and there simply is nothing like roaming the world of Mira inside your Skell. Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is a phenomenal improvement on a rough but fantastic game. In terms of new content, however, it can feel very rushed and unsatisfying. Aside from that, this is still the same Xenoblade Chronicles X fanatics have come to love.
Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is, indeed, the best way to play this pillar of the Wii U’s library. The quality of life upgrades are top tier and make an already great game into a more refined masterpiece. Though the direction of the new epilogue feels a bit rushed, I’m excited for the future of this branch of the Xenoblade series.
Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is a remarkable achievement on the Nintendo Switch. This isn't a surprise; the original was a remarkable achievement on the Wii U. Some original development decisions, however, still prevent it from becoming a series best.Read More
With over 60 hours of gameplay, and much more if you aim to complete every mission and uncover every corner of Mira, there's always something to keep you engaged. Despite its narrative shortcomings, it’s a world that’s easy to lose yourself in—whether it’s your first adventure or a return trip.
Xenoblade Chronicles X may not be as widely recognized as other entries in the Xenoblade Chronicles series, but it remains a beloved cult classic among fans.
