Onrush is a chaotic, addictive and above all fun vehicular combat game that breathes new life into the racing genre.
After a decade of waiting, Burnout's heir apparent is here. With a mix of reckless driving, team-based objectives, and just a dash of neon superpowers, Onrush is an explosive cocktail that's not to be missed.
Now, while Codemasters have a long list of racing titles in their portfolio, their latest release, Onrush, certainly isn't a traditional racing game. While
Onrush is one of the better multiplayer games on the market and is easily a game for all ages. The customization, competition, and teamwork all make for a heck of an afternoon of gaming. And where it is 7v7, you can't possibly run out of spots for friends to come get some.
Onrush is one of the most original driving games I’ve played in years, giving it a unique flavor. By forgetting about simply going faster than everyone else and mixing traditional racing mechanics with modes and subtle nuances typically found in other genres, Onrush managed to change the way I think about racing games. Its unorthodox online car-brawls and varied objectives go out of their way to feel different, and even when the maps become repetitive after a short while, its appeal remains for the simple fact that there’s no other arcade driving game quite like this.
With ample incentives to race with style and send your opponents to the dirt, tearing through tracks in Onrush is an exhilarating competition of speed, flare and perseverance.
A fantastically original racer that goes out of its way to offer unique play modes without alienating anyone that just wants a fun arcade experience.
ONRUSH tries a number of new things with its team-based driving mechanics, and some aspects of this gamble pay off better than others. Its speed and mechanics are sound, but those looking for something a bit more traditional best approach with caution.
An intriguing concept that should have gone much further, Onrush burns out in neon smoke, promoting a team aspect that's not exceptionally amazing. Decent gameplay abounds but dedicated racers and competitive players will be left wanting for a meatier experience.
Onrush is sort of like if Overwatch were a racing game. It looks and handles superficially similar to MotorStorm, with different types of vehicles facing off on expansive tracks. The whole game is built around team battles.
This is not a race. It is a high-speed stampede.
