I applaud the insistent focus on combat, but En Garde! deserves more; a plot, environments waiting to be explored, real progression. None of that is here, so while the game's core is well-designed and robust, it's a bit too slim an experience to get a wholehearted recommendation from me.
And after just three or four sessions with Everybody 1-2 Switch, I'd seen it all and didn't want to go back. I don't know how this happened, but I do know that there are far, far better ways to entertain friends and family on Switch than this.
But Dave the Diver knows from the very first scene what it wants to be, and from the get-go it's firing on all its available cylinders. You get a fantastically complex gaming experience here, with a self-awareness that would suit many major studios.
However, that shouldn't stop me from praising Tindalos for putting together an experience that's packed with great ideas and solid systems. Aliens: Dark Descent is first and foremost a good idea, and there's undoubtedly talent behind it, although this is a clear example of how a potential sequel that can...
Dredge
But Dredge is a resounding success, and is a game that is incredibly easy to recommend to all those with a penchant for quirky little experiences that can do more than you might think at first glance.
Conversely, Luminous Productions are damn lucky that they've constructed a gameplay loop so incredibly satisfying, consisting of awesome spells, lovely parkour and solid enemy variety. That's what you're mainly doing, and therefore it's mainly enjoyable to play. You'll see really divisive scores on Forspoken from established media, furthermore, you'll probably...
Sports Story isn't bad, but it so quickly makes the typical mistake of piling too much on top of a foundation that can't really hold up anymore. More sports and content types give more flexibility and versatility, yes, but it also makes the game distract itself, and you, all the...
But ultimately, The Callisto Protocol is a triumph. It's not only a triumph because it refuses to include some of the both predatory and bloated mechanics and systems which almost seems ubiquitous in game design today, it's a triumph because it's an entertaining thrill ride, which reaches its goals thanks...
At the end of the day, or end of the journey, if you will, the central premise of Far: Changing Tides is a solid one, one where you do feel like you are piloting this massive, but fragile vessel, that needs your attention, and that this journey is a matter...
Forza Horizon 5 is beautiful. It's varied, it's well put together, it's deeply rewarding and overflowing with content to engage with. It's not even as confusing as it has been. That, in my book, makes it one of the best games of the year, but if you are expecting even...
And with games like GTFO, we know that it is possible to design cooperative shooters that maintain tension, and fear, as you move through areas filled with enemies, that will take your head off if you're not calendar, and perfectly in-sync. That's not what Aliens: Fireteam Elite is, but there...
If you wanted more, if you wished for this to be Mafia 2.0 - a recreated and modernised version of all the aspects that made the original so iconic in a sleek new package with new content - you are going be disappointed. What you've got here is a relatively...
