Drag x Drive

Drag x Drive

I hope this doesn’t end up being the Switch 2’s best use of the JoyCon mice. I’m hopeful that FPS games may feel better in that regard, but for now, Drag x Drive feels largely like a pass, unless you’re super into these sorts of motion control games, or appreciate the representation of wheelchair basketball in video game form.

After finishing Mafia: TOC, I will remember it fondly as a solid solo game experience, and I wish that we could have more games of the same ilk. It doesn’t waste any time with open-world bloat, it tells a compelling story, and gives you the option of being a completionist if you choose it.

There’s a solid game somewhere inside WUCHANG, but it falls short of greatness in several areas, including the fact that this genre is really starting to feel a bit tedious and saturated in 2025. But if you’re craving some of that early early 2010s punishment era Soulslike feeling, this game may really resonate with you.

The game’s score accentuates these moments, composed once again by the talented Ludvig Forssell, utilizing the ultra-heartbreaking “BB’s Theme” from the original game at its most crucial points to drive me to tears. It helps to evoke some deeply personal feelings and emotions that not many other games have been able to.

I’m sure fans of Control will get even more enjoyment out of this game, as it’s set within that universe and features its characters and enemies. Unfortunately, that one’s been in my backlog for years, so I have little connection to the franchise. But the good news is, I still found some joy in it without having any idea what was going on, so there’s no need to play the first game.

In the end, NS2 Welcome Tour feels like an interactive manual on how the Switch 2 works. It’s not entirely devoid of joy, but I also can’t recommend it. But, if you come from the camp of “hey, it’s just $10,” then by all means, have at it.

But when it comes to playing and unlocking new content, you can get new racers, karts, and other items passively, too. There are lifetime challenges like distance traveled, coins collected, tricks performed, and many others to keep players racing for hundreds and hundreds of hours.

That feeling of frustration followed by accomplishment, relief, and satisfaction after tackling a difficult boss has been around since Demon’s Souls. It still feels amazing, and now you can experience it with pals as a pre-made team in bite-sized experiences, marking what feels like it could be a true turning point for FromSoft into a new era.

The ongoing mystery of the Paintress, its creations, and the game’s expanding cast of characters unravels more with each battle and cutscene, as Expedition 33 builds to a crescendo and solidifies itself as one of the more memorable, unique, and exciting RPGs in recent memory.
