Donkey Kong Bananza is a true showcase for the Nintendo Switch 2, offering an almost unmatched platforming experience that makes collectibles feel important. An absolute joy to play.

Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour is just decent, when you'd expect more for something designed to show a new system.

Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time is addictive and has numerous quality of life improvements for the genre. It might suffer from a slow start and repetitious voiceover work, but that’ll fade away and you’ll soon find yourself lost in its systems and loving every minute.

Bionic Bay is a superb and challenging physics platform game with a beautiful visual design, and clever puzzles within.

6.0

Warner Bros. attempt at getting things going again with Gotham Knights feels largely flat thanks to unwieldy movement and a world that is more “checklist” than immersive, but in small doses it can be fun, and the heroes all feel unique and work well in co-op multiplayer.

He probably was once, but now, as he falls from lethal heights, grappling from point to point, destroying communist juntas and eating dictators for breakfast like normal people do with eggs and soldiers, he’s a stone cold killing machine.

Hitman 2

Aside from knocking the drab story on the head, it’s tough to know what more I could have wanted from Hitman 2. It’s here for you to mess with it, to try and push the AI routines and bring them to breaking point. It’s as gamey as they come, but it's a developer having fun, and inviting you to join in.

Red Dead Redemption 2
5/5

Red Dead Redemption 2 has a lot to live up to, not least because it includes people and places from the previous – and much beloved – game. It’s a strange beast, this one: enormous, glorious-looking, and boasting some of the best voice acting ever committed to the medium.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
4/5

In years past, the heaving package that is Activision’s blockbuster yearly title has always felt like it had something for everyone, and while the time to kill (how many bullets you’re able to soak up before saying bye bye) for the multiplayer was seemingly getting smaller, making all but the elite struggle, Black Ops 4 has seen big changes, meaning that despite the controversial lack of single player, it’s somehow still got something for everyone.

Heaving with all that content, and impressing on the pitch where it counts, this is the best FIFA has been in years. I won’t deny I’m more than a little in love with it. The highest praise I can give is that I wasn’t expecting to say that this year. Well played.
