Another Code: Recollection is a lovingly crafted remake of two underrated gems that helped to demonstrate the innovations of their original platforms, and adapted them to the current generation.

Another Code: Recollection brings together puzzle-solving, fun stories with twists and turns, and very interesting characters and lore all in one place. This is a wonderful remake of the games that came out in 2005 and 2009. While the games aren’t too long, together, they make for a fun time by yourself or solving the mysteries with friends.

Another Code: Recollection is a remake of two existing games: Another Code: Two Memories for the Nintendo DS and Another Code: R – A Journey Into Lost Memories for the original Wii. And having experienced the remake, I’m now kicking myself for having missed these gems. If you like character development, complicated families, and relatively simple puzzles, you can’t miss this title.

With Nintendo’s wide range of IPs – from Metroid and Mario, to Starfy and ARMS – it’s always an unexpected joy when something from days gone by suddenly gets a breath of fresh air. The year of 2024 is the return of the unsung heroine, Ashley Mizuki Robbins. In spite of not being nearly as well known as Yoshi or Marth, Ashley remains one of the most relatable and engaging characters that comes from one of the lesser known series, Another Code. A true relic of the DS era, Another Code: ...

The periods between puzzles and cutscenes feel like content droughts; they're too long and there's not enough to keep the game feeling engaging. It's primarily a walking simulator. The writing in the story babies you to the point that there is nothing to intrigue you or think about. You don’t have to be good at puzzles to play this game because it spoils its solutions, even with the puzzle hints turned off. Another Code: Recollection does not land well for newcomers to the Another Code duology. The nostalgic value may be worth it to long-time lovers of the story, though....

Nintendo and sophisticated storytelling don’t always go hand-in-hand, but they did for a brief period in the late 2000s when the company teamed up with developer Cing to publish games like Another Code: Two Memories (released as Trace Memory in North America), Another Code: R – A Journey into Lost Memories, and Hotel Dusk: Room 215. These games served as an introduction to the visual novel format for a lot of Western players, telling surprisingly complex, mature stories, and are still fondly remembered by a certain dedicated fanbase today. Unfortunately, Cing went bankrupt in 2010, leading most to assume their...

It's been almost 20 years since Trace Memory hit the DS and now, we can play it along with the second game in the series for the first time in North America. I definitely didn't expect them to be remade so read on for my thoughts on these mystery-filled stories.

Another Code: Two Memories and Another Code: R — A Journey of Lost Memories are apparently hidden gems on their respective consoles; The DS in 2005, and the Wii in 2009, respectively. I can certainly agree with the “hidden” part — I had never heard of the series before. The first game, renamed Trace Memory for North America, was released worldwide, but its sequel was only released in Japan and Europe. If for no other reason, this is why I’m glad Another Code: Recollections exists. M...

Another Code: Recollection's biggest addition to the original DS and Wii experiences, besides the slick new graphics and fully explorable 3D environs, is its all-new navigation and puzzle aids. With the obtuse nature of some puzzles now a triviality — should you find yourself stumped — there's now no difficulty spikes or annoying moments to hold you back from a two-part tale that's very much worth diving into for fans of slow-burn point-and-click titles. Their pacing could have done with some more work, but this collection is as good a return to Ashley's world as fans could have hoped for.

One of the strangest remakes of all time, given the amount of effort and care that’s been put into such obscure adventure games that, in all honesty, don’t deserve the attention.

At this point we’re circling back to the beginning. I think it’s super awesome that Another Code: Recollection exists. A deeply underrated classic I thought was, due to the literal expiration of its dev studio, never going to see the light of day again has come back. It’s also the first time the second half of the story is available outside of Japan and Europe! Unfortunately, I’d probably prefer to actually revisit and play the originals because of how the remakes sand the edges off. Between the middling voice acting undermining the story, the barely-there puzzles, and the sterility of...

The work that has gone into bringing Another Code: Two Memories and its sequel to Switch is impressive, giving us a pair of enthralling adventures to follow. The DAS is an excellent little gadget, and the characters and overall story are excellently written and charming, but the short length of this collection and lack of activities outside the investigating result in a somewhat one-note affair. Another Code: Recollection is a decent little package, but you might be left wanting if you have played the original releases.
