Professional reviews from gaming critics
Bloodforge is a single player game, but there is a competitive element present. Using the Blood Duel feature, players can challenge one another to beat high scores in certain sections of the game. Challenges are also available to create and participate in, i.e. players participate in a wave-completion arena event with leaderboards.
It’s just a pity there isn’t more to this game, because it gets the presentation so right. A more nuanced combat system would have helped but I must commend the game for understanding what it does well and sticking to that. This is a game of brutal violence and raw power, and the games’ various elements do come together to create that precise effect.
Bloodforge is a dark and brutal action combat game set in an ancient Celtic world. The fate of the ruling gods is decided at the hands of one man: our hero, Crom.
At only 1200 Microsoft Points, it’s fair to say that Bloodforge simply isn’t trying to compete against the likes of God of War, Darksiders, or any number of the fully-priced retail third-person action games that it’s aping. Still, considering how Xbox LIVE Arcade is chockfull of amazing gameplay experiences like Trials HD, Fez, Shadow Complex, and more, it’s very difficult to recommend Bloodforge to anyone at any price.

Bloodforge feels like work; a dreary Tuesday morning filled with meetings and admin, where your boss yells at you, your computer keeps turning itself off and you accidentally kill your wife.
