Professional reviews from gaming critics
Moxxi's Heist of the Handsome Jackpot is a fantastic first step for Borderlands 3's DLC, featuring tons of viable loot, fun boss fights, a decent story with nonstop action, and plenty of new characters
With a fun cast of characters driving an engaging story and a ton of worthwhile rewards to collect, the Borderlands 3 Moxxi's Heist of the Handsome Jackpot DLC is a must-play for fans of the looter-shooter. It expands on the best parts of the base game and gives players an interesting new casino setting to explore. It's true that some of the lingering technical issues hamper the experience a bit, but otherwise Moxxi's Heist of the Handsome Jackpot is exactly what fans would want from a Borderlands 3 DLC pack.
Despite splitting opinion wherever it goes, there is one thing you cannot deny about Borderlands 3. Developer Gearbox Software consistently goes above and beyond when it comes to post-launch support and its latest looter shooter is no different. Two in-game events have already come and gone since the game's September 2019 release, but it's Borderlands 3: Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot which brings about the first sizeable expansion. It's more Borderlands, and that’s enough for now.
Borderlands 3‘s first DLC is quirky and action-packed, but I was decidedly left wanting more. Hopefully the other campaigns will take more risks, but in the meantime Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot is more Borderlands, which is typically a good thing.
Borderlands 3: Moxxi's Heist of The Handsome Jackpot takes a while to hit its stride, but when it does it's firing on all cylinders. Any hard feelings I had about jittery pacing of the first part of the main story melted away once it hit its groove, and I found myself falling in love with Borderlands all over again. Shooting and looting are what it’s all about, and there's enough here to reignite my interests in Borderlands 3. While Moxxi's Heist of The Handsome Jackpot plays its hand close to its chest, it's still some quality Borderlands content, and that's all anyone wants, anyway.
