Carmen Sandiego's new video game actually released on mobile devices through Netflix Games earlier this year before its recent launch on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch. On all platforms, the game features vibrant graphics and some voice acting, although the situations where voice acting is and isn't used feels a bit haphazard. Additionally, though it has both a main campaign and "cold case" side quests dubbed the ACME Files, players must bounce back and forth, completing missions in each unrelated thread in order to level up enough to progress, which can take away from the story.

Carmen Sandiego is a welcome addition to a franchise that continues to educate in all the right ways. For better or worse it doesn’t mix the formula up too much, but any young one should find much to like. Just be sure to stick with a portable platform to enjoy it best.

Remember Carmen Sandiego? She's back with a brand new game, some 40 years after the original video game that kicked off a franchise. Perhaps she should have been left in the past, though, because this new entry doesn't do anything to reignite Carmen Sandiego's worldwide hunt for criminals. Despite an interesting premise, the game is not all that exciting and quickly becomes very repetitive.

Carmen Sandiego was a big part of my childhood and here's a brand new game that's quite a nostalgic yet fresh-feeling iteration of the classic.

This globe-trotting adventure can err on the side of being too simplistic, but with amazing scenery and fun puzzles, it’s a solid update to the classic Carmen formula nonetheless.

When I was a kid, “edutainment” was a thing in video games, especially on PC. I had several point-and-click adventures that had me solving puzzles, answering trivia, and other brain-wrenching exercises to get by instead of simply jumping on goombas or whatever. They were neat, even if they didn’t adhere to the same kinds of standards as a big budget franchise like Mario or Final Fantasy. When I had a kid of my own, I noticed those games all but vanished, relegated to mobile titles that would sort of teach about numbers, letters, and such, but be more laser-focused and...

I first played ‘Where In The World is Carmen Sandiego’ way back in the early 90s and I’m glad the franchise had its comeback. It’s a game made for the fans and new gamers alike and I highly recommend it if you're into chill, puzzle/e-Learning games with a twist of action and adventure.

Taken as a whole game, Carmen Sandiego is a perfectly cromulent romp despite its relative simplicity. Slipping into familiar trappings isn’t always a bad thing, especially when you’re aiming to make a return like this. While not quite a triumphant return to the gaming space, it’s definitely a welcome one. I like to think that there’s still a place in the gaming world for The World’s Greatest Thief. So seeing her land on her feet like this is a welcome surprise. Carmen isn’t one to...
