Decay of Logos Reviews

Professional reviews from gaming critics

I’ve been keeping an eye on Decay of Logos ever since I found out about its announcement. It looked like a neat mix between the gameplay found in Dark Souls and the world and aesthetics from The Legend of Zelda, all wrapped up in a surprisingly affordable indie package. Knowing the curation skills of its publisher, the same one that brought us Deadly Premonition and Trailblazers, that made me look forward to it even more. Now that the game is finally out, I can’t help but feel a little bi...

While Decay of Logos has some interesting ideas and a few cool looking areas, any bright spots are drowned out by poor design choices, an unforgettably infuriating companion, and an abundance of technical issues. You’re likely to spend more time groaning at the agonizing monotony of repetitious enemies and learning workarounds to technical hiccups than enjoying the cliché story or exploring the compelling areas the world has to offer. I wanted Decay of Logos to be the perfect mix of Dark Souls and Breath of the Wild that it aspires to be, and a huge amount of bug fixing could help get it a lit...

In its quest to mimic other successful franchises, Amplify Creations has created the Frankenstein of video games. Decay of Logos is an unbalanced, unresponsive mess with little soul to pick up the slack. There are far too many better alternatives to waste any time with this fundamentally broken adventure.

For those of us who loved the Nintendo Switch’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the last two years have been rough. After completing the game’s stellar campaign, it was hard not to wonder what was next for the series and even the genre as a whole. As if they were listening to our most personal thoughts, Amplify Creations has a new experience that hopes to answer this question: Decay of Logos. Thematically picking up where Breath of the Wild left off, with a little bit of Souls-inspired shenanigans mixed in for agonizingly good measure, the game aspires to offer up the next great open ...

Decay of Logos has a few good ideas which are completely swamped in the terrible performance, glitches and bad design which make up the rest of the game. Despite trying to distance itself from the label of a Souls-Like it cannot help but draw comparisons to the much better series, a comparison which only throws its flaws into sharp focus.

Let’s just cut to the chase. Decay of Logos is bad. Like, really bad. It’s a game that attempts to take the best parts of beloved franchises like The Legend of Zelda and Dark Souls and mash them together to create a sprawling, relentless world that is just as beautiful to the eye as it is deadly. Yet, developer Amplify Creations achieves none of this, instead delivering a game that never reaches the sum of its parts, and is so woefully inadequate when compared to the games it’s trying to mimic that I could never recommend this to even the most hardcore of Zelda/Souls fans.
