Professional reviews from gaming critics

While Disgaea 4 is in many ways more of the same from the tactics franchise, its unique story, premise, characters and wonderful variety make it extremely fun to put hours upon hours into. Disgaea 4 is a long title that offers a lot to do both during and after the story to keep players coming back for a bigger and better challenge. There are those who want to finish the story and find new challenges and others who want to get all their characters to level 9999 to feel like the ultimate champion. There's no real wrong way to play Disgaea and there's endless fun to be had in Hell with its lovabl...

Disgaea 7 Complete is probably the best Disgaea game yet, and on the Nintendo Switch 2 it looks beautiful and runs smoother than ever.

One of the best SRPGs in recent years has a new iteration for Switch 2 and Disgaea 7 Complete is jam-packed with hilarity and content.

If you haven't played Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, and you're a fan of some of the later titles, this is a great game to try. If you have played the first title before, this may not be a valuable purchase to you as many of the new additions in Complete are minor outside of the visual quality. I think Switch owners will find this title to be the most ideal as grinding when you have some free time is a lot of fun. Overall, I'm happy I got a chance to see this longrunning series' early history with Disgaea 1 Complete, and I look forward to seeing where the games go next.

There’s a reason why Disgaea spawned so many sequels and spin-offs, and that’s because it succeeded on so many levels. Its storytelling, humour and accessible yet deep gameplay were all phenomenal when it released in 2003, and even 15 years later it all stills holds up magnificently. If you’ve never found the series appealing then this release isn’t going to change your mind, but as far as Disgaea goes, the original is still the best, and Disgaea 1 Complete is the best of the best. The only thing that lets it down is its steep price. It’s a hell of a lot more expensive than Disgaea PC, yet the...

The original Disgaea came out 15 years ago, in 2003. It was a formative game for a baby gamer such as myself, who barely knew what things like anime were at the time outside of Dragon Ball Z. I didn’t even have my own PlayStation 2 at the time, merely getting a sample of the game at a friend’s house. Disgaea wasn’t like anything I had played before (although I had played Final Fantasy Tactics). It was bright and colorful, but weird and macabre at the same time. The good guys were the bad guys, and the cast of characters spent most of the game being jerks to each other. This was a far cry from ...

Hinomoto just got a lot more chaotic with the arrival of Disgaea 7 Complete. With a significant upgrade to performance and all DLC packed in, Nippon Ichi Software's latest entry in the tactical RPG series feels right at home on the Nintendo Switch 2.

Disgaea 7 Complete is a jam-packed version of Disgaea 7 with all previously released DLC, new story content, new features, and gameplay tweaks that make it the definitive edition of the strategy RPG. Although Disgaea 7 Complete doesn't revamp the game in a major way, it offers a lot of fun and engaging content with a easy pick-up-and-play combat system that will make the hours fly by before you know it. There are dozens of hours to be spent in Disgaea 7 Complete, all of which looks crisp and ...

Disgaea 7 Complete is the best way to play Disgaea 7. It includes all the DLC from the original base game and more. It may not add much to the core of Disgaea 7 but it really doesn’t need to.

With how stellar a package the Vows of the Virtueless proved to be upon release, the expanded and feature-packed Disgaea 7 Complete should be a slam dunk of a recommendation to any tactical RPG fan — but re-releases are rarely that simple. For anyone who missed out on the original the first time around, this version is every bit as great and stands tall as the ultimate, feature-complete iteration of the game. At the same time, there’s no denying that the handful of brand-new content additions fall on the niche side and mostly serve those who want to live and breathe Disgaea 7 for their next hu...

Oct 3, 2025 Read Review

Disgaea 1 Complete may now be the best way to play the game that kicked off the popular franchise but a lack of recent features or any real touched up gameplay elements leave it as a great game that is likely only for hardcore fans of the series.
